Overall plot progress at last! We find out what happened between the Emperor and Guilliman, etc. The Psychic Awakening has a purpose. It's the throwdown you've been waiting for, as Guilliman and Mortarion work out ten thousand years of pent-up resentment in a clash for the ages.

While Guilliman attempts to prevent the destruction of his kingdom, Mortarion schemes to bring his brother low with the Godblight, a disease created in the Cauldron of Nurgle itself, made with the power to destroy a son of the Emperor. Another casualty of Godblight is its dialogue, excluding one or two scenes that I'll mention at the end of the review. Rather than dynamic or involved conversations that take Guilliman's status and stature into account , people just talk at him like he's a blue-coloured wall. Hell, there's parts of Godblight that are just pure exposition. Rotigus is a huge offender. Mathieu is another.A common bit of boilerplate text, often published as a foreword in most 40K novels, describes the setting as such:

Guy: I really enjoyed writing the interactions between the daemons. I love the very human nature of Nurgle’s Great Unclean Ones. They’re quarrelsome, affectionate, amusing, insecure, as well as being god-level spreaders of supernatural diseases! I had lots of fun with Ku’Gath’s plague guard, particularly the unfortunate Septimus, but that pleasure was eclipsed by writing the rivalry between Ku’Gath and Rotigus in book three. He must accept the deliberately ignorant reverences of Frater Mathieu, because Mathieu's faith literally ensured victory. He must accept that his soldiers murder children and think that’s pretty swell. He must hate the pain he inflicts on others: Hear me!’ Guilliman’s voice boomed through eternities. The sword blazed higher, until the fire of it threatened to burn out time. ‘I am Roboute Guilliman, last loyal son of the Emperor of Terra. It is not your destiny to end today, God of Plague, but know that I am coming for you, and I will find you, and you will burn.’ Gman observed Matheiu giving sermons directly calling Gman a demigod, almost a jesus like figure to the emperor's yahweh. Colquan wants to end the mad priest right there but Gman is not so sure after the events of the last 2 books. Matheiu also threatened Gman by saying if he is killed, the church will believe that perhaps Gman wants to take the throne afterall and there will be civil war. All the priest wants is for Gman to see the light & believe his father is a God.and you might say: “Well, it’s a big universe and sometimes you have to make tough decisions. Their deaths were necessary for secrecy. The literal billions of lives saved far outweigh it.” Godblight isn’t just about primarch versus primarch action, as we continue to explore the effect that the Emperor himself may or may not be having on the galaxy, and chronicle the beginning of the war between the dark gods…
