Her hair has varied over the books. The color is not mentioned in The Angel Experiment, but in School's Out - Forever and Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, it is repeatedly called blonde and even sun-streaked. However, starting in The Final Warning, her hair color is brown, but is still occasionally mentioned as containing sun streaks.

Max acquired a bank card with her name on it in The Angel Experiment; however, it is only mentioned in that book. I feel like a little bit of the internal feelings/thinking is lost in this version over the original, which is interesting because many Japanese manga have quite a bit of internal thought. The emphasis on this version of Maximum Ride is definitely fast-paced action sequences, which it does well. While working in Chad, Angel reveals that Fang will be "the first to die." He is the only one who doesn't look upset. Later that night, he tells Max not to worry about it, and that "it has to be me first. Not you." Later, Hawk decides to test the prisoner (Fang). She asks him to describe her appearance, and Fang perfectly describes her wings and shows his own, surprising Hawk.

The suspense turns out be a thriller. We begin to wonder about the fate of Angel and about what the Erasers are planning for her. They want to control her mind and make her do something. Max has a tall and thin build, standing 5'8" in The Angel Experiment and MAX. She has a wingspan that starts The doctor of Devil's Hill is tending to her wound when she wakes up and find out he had given her a special blood transfusion of modified plasma and blood because of her avian DNA, and somehow he knows about the 2% avian DNA. She leaves the infirmary into the outdoor exercise space to get some exercise where she discovers Kenton's death. Max wakes up on an operating table to hear McCallum and the doctor discussing how to remove her wings. She begins devising a plan but is interrupted when she passes out again.Fang recovers from losing several months of his life. In the underground bunker, he and Max welcome their newborn daughter Phoenix. As the book ends, they emerge from the bunker after a four-year nuclear winter. Good characters are interesting and little children like to dress up like them. There are Superman costumes everywhere. All the children want to be like their hero, courageous and always fighting for justice. Here we see that Max is out to find a way to escape from Erasers and rescue Angel at the same time. Ever since the children escaped from the school, the Erasers have been figuring out some way to keep the children in their place. Max's hair color also varies by adaptation. In the manga it is blonde, in the Marvel miniseries it is red, and in the film it is platinum blonde. Max and her daughter Hawk team up to save the City of the Dead from a plague. Hawk sees a monster in the nearby forest and she decides to tell Langford, a member of the council. Hawk goes to the forest to investigate. After some failures she finds a hidden base of hybrids. Moke and Hawk get taken captured by the Renegades. Hawk gets away. Moke still captured finds his new ability. Tensions continue to rise with Hawk in the middle. Langford captures Hawk and Calypso and they trap Langford and get out. Volume 8 was released in July 2014 and features Fang once again on the cover. It continues The Final Warning. Fang's "self-mutation" is the ability to become near-invisible when holding still, discovered in The Final Warning. This skill only plays a significant part in that book.Angel said that Fang will be the first to die. In FANG, he almost dies and Max revives him with an adrenaline shot to the heart; in Maximum Ride Forever, he dies, but Dylan places him in suspended animation and revives him. In School's Out - Forever, Max goes on one date with a boy named Sam while temporarily attending a school in Virginia. This may have been to make Fang jealous. However, Max's paranoia made her suspicious of Sam. Volume 2 was released on October 27, 2009, and features Fang on the cover. It completes The Angel Experiment and at the end, there is a preview of FANG.
