I suspect that most people have a sex life not unlike mine, but happy to be shouted down if I'm misguided in that.

A really good and engaging book that more people should read - especially males in Britain/US - to help people be more comfortable with themselves but also in understanding their partners (this book is so much more than a sex diary or tales of exploits) but there is a bit of padding at the end. I didn't expect to be moved in quite the way I was by this story but it meant a lot to me and I'd recommend it to men as well as women for its accessibility and openness.

It blows stereotypes about sex, silence and stigma wide open, unflinchingly confronts the reality of women’s complex sexual lives without patronising or preaching, and best of all it will make you laugh yourself silly at the same time! I would recommend this book to any women who are struggling to find their way or some agency in their sex lives. Highly recommended, if only to learn about how this wonderful author is able to open up to, which certainly isn't easy (see my earlier remark about this society) - but she did it anyways. In the beginning I wasn't sure if a memoir of sex adventures would keep me interested beyond a peeping-Tom level, but something Holmes says in the beginning really touched me and made me devour the rest of the book. She talks about her first proper, slow, pleasurable sexual encounter and describes how she cried in the end and thought that she didn't _deserve_ to be treated like that.

But, if there’s anything isolating about the book, besides the isolation that ultimately comes from reading the experiences of someone who isn’t like you, it’s the unstoppable British slang and voicey-ness.
