Being a shorter web series, Yoru no Kuni goes for a character-of-the-day approach, where every episode focuses on a different singular person, with the only main character among them being Yoru. While the human characters aren't exactly the most three-dimensional or layered, they feel realistic, and their problems are down-to-earth, relatable, and true to life, even within the context of the fantastical setting. Even Yoru, who we know the least about throughout the entire series, is likeable, as he's basically some kind of magical monster therapist who gives advice and helps when his charges ask, but never patronizes them and gently nudges them towards their resolution without being forceful or overbearing. He's simply there if they need him, and he helps them when they ask for it, acting as a sort of guide for them. The anime doesn't try to answer any questions about him, and there is a lot we don't know about Yoru. What is he? Where does he come from? What's his overall purpose? Why does he help these people? What does he even gain from helping them? Is he a cog in a machine, a part of something bigger, or does he help people because he wants to? Is it even out of genuine kindness or due to some ulterior motive? Parental Abandonment: Ren/Kyuta's mother died before the events of the story, while his father divorced her some time before her death. It turns out Ren's father wasn't informed of what had happened to Ren's mother until after his son had already disappeared into Jūtengai and spent years searching for him even after the police had given up. They reconnect at the end. Yep itu kutipan gak salah tulis. Itu diucapkan sama Yano. Meski gak diulas lebih dalam, aku rasa Yano ini autis. Dia kerap ga bisa baca suasana, agak gak tanggap, dan gaya bicaranya juga beda (terlihat dari penulisan dialog Yano). buku Sumino Yoru pertama yang aku baca. di Indonesia sendiri, karyanya udah terbit beberapa. hal pertama yang aku rasakan selama membacanya adalah : ini aneh. khas literatur jepang. tapi aku suka. Bersama mereka, kita akan diajak untuk mengenali "wajah-wajah" yang ditampilkan manusia. Mereka akan memperlihatkan bahwa manusia bisa menjadi makhluk yang rumit dan punya banyak lapisan. Apa yang selama ini ditampilkan seseorang belum tentu wajah aslinya. Ada si jahat yang bersikap baik di depan orang-orang tertentu, ada pula si murah hati yang tidak bisa menampilkan kebaikan hatinya karena kekangan tak kasat mata.

Aku rasa buku ini cocok buat memperkenalkan hal-hal yg mungkin dianggap biasa saja oleh remaja bahwa hal tersebut bagian dari bullying dan menyisakan luka buat korban. Karena saat remaja tuh kadang emang manusia belum berakal. Apalagi di tengah peer presure. Bisa dibilang buku ini penuh politik yg umum terjadi di masa sekolah. Ada gerombolan anak populer, anak yg biasa saja, dan anak yg berbeda (dan rentan jadi korban bullying).

dengan sedikit balutan realisme magis, kita diajak mengenali isu perundungan dengan cara dan sudut pandang yang berbeda. lewat sudut pandang tokoh utamanya, kita akan diajak memikirkan tentang pencarian jati diri anak SMP. jadi isu perundungan disini bukan dari karakter yang dirundung, melainkan dari karakter yang diem aja dan gak ngasi reaksi langsung. malahan tokoh yg dirundung sama sekali tidak menunjukkan reaksi tertekan ataupun hal negatif lainnya, malahan dia happy dan lebih menunjukkan reaksi yang aneh. All There in the Manual: The novelization, also written by Hosoda, explains a few details not revealed in the movie, including the reason why Ren’s parents divorced. In the human world, he takes down the delinquent boys who were ridiculing Kaede with little effort. Sewaktu baca judul novel ini dan lihat covernya aku sama sekali gak kepikiran bahwa tema yang diangkat oleh novel ini tentang bullying. Aku kira novel ini kisahnya tentang manusia yang berubah jadi monster terus menyelamatkan atau menghancurkan kota, cerita-cerita semacam itulah ya.

As Chiyo learns to cope with the loss in her heart, the starless world around her begins to light up.

He’s surprised to find himself developing a sympathetic relationship with her. In this supernatural novel about nighttime outcasts, two students confront the monstrous ways that humans can treat each other.

Furthermore, we never know what Yano's deal is. Is she neuroatypical? Does she have a disability? Her strange actions and speech impediment make her a target for her class's bullying, but the book never fills the audience in on just what her deal is. We never even learn anything about her other than she likes Ghibli movies, occasionally twists conversations around, acts out on impulse, and that she's weird. Some of her more morally questionable actions help her stay away from just being a classic victim character whose sole purpose is to garner sympathy from the audience, but Sumino doesn't really make much of an effort to flesh her out or give her any development other than her experiences at school. We don't meet her family nor know if she does anything outside of school, like hobbies or other interests. There are reoccurring events of property destruction at the school during the course of the story. The baseball clubroom window is broken twice, and a classmate's shoes are shredded up. Midoriokawa makes a mention about Adachi's friend, Kasai, who she says "isn't a good person" when Adachi mentions the property destruction before disappearing. There's never any elaboration on this and leaves me wondering why it was even put in the story if it was never going to be resolved. Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The Lord, who literally has a set of bunny ears (as he's a rabbit), who is a seemingly goofy old fart who everyone in Jutengai respects implicitly. Several of the other lords that Kumatetsu and Kyuta visit to learn about strength also qualify.
