When I first saw the title, thought it was a sequel to the first book by this author, The Serial Killer’s Wife. It is not. This is another twisty tale of a family and how the evil of one affects all the lives around them. While I guessed who the killer was, still found this to be an enjoyable read and would recommend to fans of this genre! You’re going to be late, Jen,’ Mark says, his tone gentle. He can probably sense something isn’t right. That, or he’s found my discarded wedding ring and is worried it’s happening again. The memory of the last time I slipped my ring from my finger and hurled it at Mark is still fresh in my mind. I cringe as I recall the stream of expletives and insults that flew from my mouth. It wasn’t my finest moment. Terrifying and chilling – a toxic story of love and obsession. It's scary and thrilling at the same time.’ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is an engaging book that really keeps you guessing with the curves and twists that are thrown in. We go along with Jenny to figure out if it is her or someone trying to frame her. There’s never a dull moment and what you think may not be it at all.

Could Jen be responsible for everything that is going wrong? After all, her father is a serial killer....not that she has ever told Mark. Is she following in her fathers footsteps? For Jane breaking away meant changing everything, especially er name which then became Jennifer. She went to veterinarian school and became a vet, married Mark and had two children far away from the clutches of her mother, Claire. Life seemed to have allowed her a measure of comfort but then she learns her husband had an affair with Olivia, a woman in their neighborhood. Just finished this last night, what a story. Jenny has a terrible secret that she has told no one, not even her husband. When dead animals keep being left on her doorstep she feels she is losing it,. Is she doing it without knowing or someone that has found out her dark secret.

I feel this book was cleverly done. Especially since the crime was similar to her father’s crimes. Is it a copycat or can someone be trying to get away with murder by using Jen? Why isn’t Daddy taking us?’ Ella asks as she pulls her booster seat from the rear of the car and positions it in the passenger side of my Volvo estate. In a sleepy Devon village, a woman is taken from the streets. Local veterinarian Jenny is horrified. This kind of thing doesn’t happen here. But it’s not the first time she’s been so close to a crime scene. The daughter of a prolific serial killer, she’s spent her whole life running from who she really is. But when a local woman goes missing in her tiny village, one who does not get along with Jenny, it causes a lot of upset and concern. The final nail in the coffin for me was the absolutely unnecessary epilogue in which one of Jenny's children cruelly pulls the wings from a butterfly only to smash the poor thing into the table. This was supposedly to cause Jenny to wonder if the "serial killer gene" skipped a generation to "infect" her child, but due to the fact that there was a lot of talk about animal mutilations in this book just leads me to seriously wonder about the author herself. I enjoyed the suspense and how the author has created a thrilling story with twists that hold up my interest at all times. Mostly because I really wanted to see for myself if my theory was right. And it was, and that’s a nice feeling.There’s a lot of ambiguity in this story as Jenny suspects many others around her, including her husband. She is paranoid she is being framed because of her family connections, but her sleepwalking does little to lighten her own suspicions – especially when she sees video footage of some of her night-time behaviours. At the same time, Hunt makes it clear that her marriage to Mark is not especially strong and there is a lot of deception between the two. With the local abduction adding to the tension, I found it difficult to understand whether this couple would ever reconcile their growing differences.
