She’s then obsessed with her past life that she doesn’t fully remember. She’s mad that Adrian pointed out that she didn’t have magic… WHICH SHE DOESN’T. She gets mad at Adrian pretty much every other chapter and what’s the only way to make her feel better? Sex. There is never a resolution. Isolde: “A woman who wants to sleep with my husband does not make her an enemy, Safira. It makes her annoying.”

Several people have stated that Adrian has no control over Dis and that she should be afraid of him. Adrian tells her the same thing. Then she acts surprised when he loses control and becomes upset that people may be correct in believing that stopping Adrian is not a bad idea. Adrian even requests that she do so. So, are those people truly betraying you, or are they possibly… I don’t know, trying to avert a bigger problem? Also known as Dis. This is the second book in the Adrian x Isolde series, and I was so excited to get my hands on it once I finished King of Battle and Blood. I wished I was kidding when I said that everything that could have gone wrong with this book, went wrong. This series might be based on a love story, but I'd hardly call this book a romance. Compared to the first instalment in the series, where the characters have such depth of feeling and tenderness for each other with great spice; and so many side characters were introduced and readied for their moment to shine… It seems that the author decided that, instead of shinning, they are all to be plummeted into darkness. I was hoping that now that Isolde has remembered her previous life, we would learn more about the characters. However, she does not recall many details until after they would have been useful. As a result, we spend the entire book behind. Which doesn’t help because there’s a traitor in Adrian’s inner circle, so every interaction makes you wonder if the person is telling the truth. We lose attachment to the characters we interact with because there is no trust. I understand why it was done because that is how Isolde felt. However, when the betrayal occurs, there is no emotional connection. Because we, as readers, have no emotional attachment to those characters and relationships. As a result, Isolde feels off. She gets angry and hurt, even though she had been suspicious of them the whole time. Like, make up your mind. Did you trust them or not?

I’m not sure what could have been done to improve the story’s flaws. Isolde would require a personality transplant, which will never happen. And she couldn’t go from one of these four characters betrayed you to trusting any of them until they proved otherwise. That would be stupid of Isolde. So, the only thing that could have made it more powerful was if we had explored that element through Adrian. For over 200 years, those were his closest companions. He trusted those people, and some of them betrayed him. But we got all of those moments from Isolde rather than Adrian. As she experienced the turning point. Because, as previously stated, she is Adrian’s weakness, they were always going to go after her instead of him. So, I’m not sure how that would’ve been accomplished if we had more of Adrian’s point of view. As we would have missed the event.I have never read a series like this since Fever! I don’t know what to think or feel or what the hell I just read!! All I know is that Adrian & Isolde have my heart and the love they have for each other makes me weak. I went into this book thinking I had a clue only to have the script totally flipped. I don’t know anything and that is the sign of a phenomenal writer. This chapter of Queen of Myth and Monsters was written from Adrian’s point of view. Like Isolde, he was constantly yearning for a brutal battle that would endanger the kingdom. He was currently on the witch’s territory, but their spells couldn’t touch him because he had been trained to kill. In the end, he was successful, and as he turned to go after casting one last glance, a grin appeared on his lips. She is the most brutal of all the queens in the Lara Kingdom. Queen Isolde, the queen of myth and monsters had a happy upbringing until King George killed her mother, which caused her to become extremely enraged and want revenge. She swore solemnly that she would rob him of the kingdom of Vela and execute him without pity.

The change in Adrian in this book was so disheartening, and I really did not enjoy many of the choices and plot points that the author decided to weave into this story. Reading this from such beloved characters was so painful. All there is in this book is suffering and pain for them, they fight their enemies and each other, and they fix it and cope with s*x, instead of communicating or trusting one another. The last 35% of the book was hard to read. I also sincerely hope that this series ends in book #3, and that this isn’t stretched out any further for the sake of some easy money. We all know the economy is bad, but having a 4th or 5th book in this series would be worse (especially if they follow in line with this one). This book starts off like maybe a few days after the first book ends. Isolde is deep within her grief after what happened with her father at the end of book 1. Adrian and her seem to be getting into arguments a lot, so it seemed to me. Like I remember in book 1 how he was supportive of her and her "unique" personality, and in this book he kind of fights her for being her. I also do not like how their past relationship keeps being brought up because Isolde doesn't have all of her memories and he does. Plus this relationship is different and even though she has the memories she isn't her past self. Queen of Myth and Monsters reminded me of Hollee Mand's Winter Sun in how much of the conflict lies in the court's disapproval of the hero's choice in wife. Isolde is considered a distraction for Adrian on his wars. It's less that Isolde is considered not good enough and more that she poses a distraction for Adrian (Winter Sun has more angst in how the court thinks lowly of the heroine!) There are nine corpses lying in a gory heap in front of the gate. Ilode’s guards were scooping them up piece by piece because of fear that their queen would suddenly speak in red and declare another war, even though the previous one wasn’t yet over. Chapter 2 of Queen of Myth and Monsters Those were what Adrian loved about Isolde. They shared a common stone heart and dark motivations in every way. Hatred and rage sharpened Adrian. At first, he hoped Isolde would calm his raging heart and lessen his hatred. But he was a creature forged by violence and will never thrive on peace.

lets just cut to the chase. there is absolutely no substance to this book. the plot has vanished and the characters have regressed to being one-dimensional. in the authors note at the end, SSC admits that writing this book in four weeks was a struggle. and sis, we can tell. i definitely think its gotten to the point where she has soooo many series at the moment that she is falling into the trap of quantity over quality. To quote Scarlet, the author, “Everyone in this book is suffering, and I think the hard part is trying to decide if you are really against anyone because they all have their motives—but that’s the interesting part of being morally grey, and in a lot of ways, I hope you struggle to decide.” But I also felt like her only way to solve issues with Adrian was to have sex, weird to me. I was also wondering where Miha went the whole book but I may not have remembered if she was mentioned in the beginning and didn’t play a role until mentioned right at the very end.
