The escalation of the tensions between Winterfell and King's Landing drive them while the lesser but integral subplots following Arya Stark, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen provide an added and enriching layer to the proceedings. But that's what Game Of Thrones became - the best, most-watched, and talked about the show for eight years showcasing the lives and deaths of several kingdoms in the fictional land of Westeros.The season is only six episodes in length and opens with Jon Snow and Daenerys arriving in Winterfell to a less than enthusiastic welcome. I wouldn’t let the sub par final season stop anyone from enjoying the first 7 seasons; some of the best television ever made in my opinion, and it would be a shame to miss. Comparing the Dolby Vision and HDR10 presentations for Game of Thrones, I found the HDR renderings to be very close. The culmination of both seasons come together as the war of the five kings escalates, resulting in treachery and bloodshed throughout the land. Closely following a group of families known as the Starks, the Targaryens, and the Lannisters, all of who are vying for the iron throne to rule the world, cross vicious paths of blood, betrayal, torture, and sex before winter shows up on the front lawn.

There’s nice detail in the mix; lots of little sound cues move around the soundstage with a precision that’s just not there in the previous DTS-HD mix on Blu-ray. DISCLAIMER: This 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray review was judged and graded using the following 4K certified Ultra HD Premium television set found here and player here. All seventy-three episodes are included on thirty 4K Ultra HD discs, which actually do include significant special features too. This is consistent with each season as well whereas time goes on, the color shifts to even a darker and bluer tone as Winter is Coming. The red, gold and stone-like structures in Casterly Rock look fantastic and bright that goes well with the blue sky and ocean that surrounds it.

Yeah, I only ever saw the first series, and didn't have good gear at the time, unlike now, and my wife wasn't interested in continuing, so I never followed up - and I just need a nice chunk of time to see it. Episodes four, five and six focus on the quest to unseat Cersei and resolve the question of who will sit upon the Iron Thrown. There’s just an overwhelming sense of immersion throughout even in the CGI moments like when Daenerys is looking over a cliff at a sea of ships. When I switched back and forth between the Dolby Vision and HDR10 renderings, I felt that the DV presentation revealed better definition in the darkest portions of the image, and slightly deeper primary color reproduction.

Well, none of the episode previews and recaps or the In-Episode Guides from the Blu-ray editions are included, though it should be noted that while the text content from Complete Guide to Westeros is missing, all of the animated video-based clips are still here. I haven’t read any of the books so my exposure going into it was limited and held only to what I had heard from friends that have been following from the outset. I would be foolish not to mention how textures in elements such as stones in walls, masonry, sand, dragon scales, feathers on arrows and even vegetation all look incredulous too.Some of the many Atmos moments you can expect to find within this complete series includes dragons flapping there hefty wings, flying, screaming, blowing fire and cold air downward and even landing, catapults, explosions, arrows overhead and you guessed it…my favorite saying…so much more. This 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray box set contains a total of 33 Discs (23 BD-100s, 7 BD-66s, 3 BD-50s) and houses hours upon hours of bonus material (15 to be exact) not to mention the complete 73 episodes (75 hours worth) in pristine 4K Ultra HD picture and Dolby Atmos surround sound plus a redemption code for Digital Copies to enjoy anywhere you want. The ending was among the series best, leaving the door wide open for the series final season’s key storylines, which are poised to take shape. All those outdoor shots of rugged landscapes and dour stone walls look stunningly real and tangible versus the HD Blu-ray, and the extra resolution enhances the sense of depth and scale in these shots too.

Thankfully I have covered every Blu-ray release of the show so there’s that and I’ll be providing you pertinent URL links to all the coverage so you won’t miss a beat here. The season’s first three episodes, while not perfect, proved engaging and did a decent job of building upon the foundational blocks of previous seasons. That encompasses all 8 seasons of the hit HBO show that plays across 73 episodes, which equates to roughly 75 hours. Because of the many, worldly environments in Game of Thrones, some real and many obviously CGI, the forever ranging landscapes are what really draw me in from the vast snowy mountainsides to castle interiors to outdoor battlefields and so much more.The improvement isn’t night and day when compared to the 1080p rendering however, more often than not, it truly shines. Another problem was that Season Seven was just seven episodes, rather than the usual ten, and Season Eight was only six. R. Martin and tells a compelling a story of duplicity and treachery, nobility and honor, conquest and triumph in a game where you either win, or you die.
