Too much coconut ruins any fragrance, but here the its use is just restrained enough to give this scent an exotic edge. I'm smelling more of a vintage Arpege-y vibe sans so much peachy rose and "dust", though I am still an Arpege lover. As in, it's equally very fruity, smoky, sugary, animalic and ambery, including overripe apricot, burnt resin amber and sweet heavy musk, producing an effect that's disorienting, overwhelming and clashing and also somewhat nauseating to me. There has been some controversy that Casmir should’ve been crowned as the first gourmand instead of Angel, yet I feel Casmir is more foody than a confectionery.

Chopard offered folks an opportunity to obtain samples through the mail and in the unbearable heat of a Florida summer in 1994 I started basking in Casmir. I have to sniff my wrist every few seconds and the world seems healthy and beautiful, like a soothing balm. The opening is a bit different, the quince is very pronounced for the first 15/20 minutes with Dulce, but the dry down is very close to Casmir. It's an vintage smell indeed, masculine something blended with a dentist smell, don't feel any vanilla in it.

Perhaps the Lancaster-era vintage was superior, but given Almairac's style of creating strong signatures using synthetics, I could imagine Casmir still being recognizable even with all expensive naturals removed. It’s still spicy vanilla coconuts and fruit all mixed up together and for me it’s warm, comforting, classy, and addictive. I got one more vintage bottle of this recently (so I now own one new bottle and two vintage bottles).Surprised how low quality the glass from which bottle made, it seems to have 0 crystal content and no better than jelly jar quality. A thick, oily oriental with lots of benzoin with an undercurrent of sweet fruit syrup and something dirty and dusty that reminds me of slightly unwashed hair, old-style wood wax and open-air "medieval" fairs with low budget but enthusiastic sellers.

I've never smelt BVLGARI Black, but I sense a plasticky/rubbery note in here that makes me think of the reputation of the infamous Black.Chopard’s Casmir, like its contemporary, Angel, eliminated most of the floral elements and instead focused on fruit, woods/resins and gourmand notes. The strength kind of varies, on me it's not very strong on initial spray, but like foundation it's buildable for a stronger scent if you so desire. I love it, and will reach for it along with Revlon's Fire and Ice, VS Vanilla Lace, and Vanilla Musk when on cold, damp days. But with all that said, I would be hard pressed to name many other perfumes that offer such bang for the buck, with a handful of exceptions - looking at you, Blue Silk by AP!

When the opening notes faded away (15ish minutes) this turned into a vanilla-amber with a dash of spice that I don't mind. Sandalwood gives a heady, smoky quality to this scent as it dries down which makes for an interesting contrast with the sweet vanilla notes. After having covid in the beginning of this year, my sense of smell first went away, then came back but everything smelt weird or off. That’s when I was blown away… by a loud raging spice locomotive, on a vanilla bean train track… dry hot breezes blowing. If you love oriental gourmand fragrances make sure that you have this sweet creamy musk in this collection.So many 2021 vanillas are cake sweet, cookie like and I just want a vanilla that were popular when I was young n fun. I can usually pick out the many notes from complex perfumes as they evolve but from this I only receive peach and vanilla and find it very flat and sickly. A little treasure bottle I look forward to spending time with during these cold, dark months to come. This is definitely not a gourmand, so don't get it if you are looking for an edible, dessert-like vanilla- this isn't it!
