English Boys" is sweetly serene, and contains some of Debbie's most introspective lyrics about how the world was changing during her formative years. Another song that could have been made into a hit is "For Your Eyes Only," a bewitching and well-crafted melody originally penned for the 1981 Bond movie of the same name - it lost out, however, to Sheena Easton's number. I also feel like this is another reason why some Blondie fans don't care for it, but I find the sound/various themes very refreshing. If Blondie kept up the same sense of experimentation and intrigue as "Orchid Club" for the duration of _The Hunter_, it may be hailed a gem or one of their most interesting works. In the liner notes to the 2001 reissue of The Hunter, producer Mike Chapman stated, "I knew that we were in a different and far less accessible artistic space.

There are many pop culture references and then modern issues mentioned throughout the album, such as The Beatles being referenced in “ English Boys” in response to John Lennon's death and military conflicts in Cambodia and the Middle East being referenced in “ War Child. The rest are middling ("Orchid Club", "Island of Lost Souls") to terrible ("The Beast", "Dragonfly", "(Can I) Find the Right Words (To Say)", "English Boys").

War Child was largely ignored outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland (where it reached 39 and 21, respectively).

The Hunter Gets Captured…”, while anticipating Debbie Harry’s future work as a jazz singer, rounds off the record nicely, flashing a light on its undercurrent themes of life as adventure / race / bush warfare.This might explain the long 18-month gap between _Autoamerican_ and 1982's swansong _The Hunter_, the longest gap between any of the original six Blondie albums. So Chris and Debbie took a gamble in prioritizing her solo career over the band and they lost badly.

Only two singles were released from the album, Island Of Lost Souls (b-side: Dragonfly) and War Child (b-side: Little Ceasar). For war child alone, this gets 4 stars, the rest of the album is best described as patchy, which is sad in a way because every album up to this point in Blondie's career was pretty much without fault.Hunter_ is also, at times, downright embarrassing (the awful faux-reggae of "Little Caesar" is the worst offender) and an obvious attempt to recreate past triumphs ("The Beast" falls completely flat at trying to imitate the sexy rap of "Rapture" from _Autoamerican_). War Child" is another highlight, (the music is stellar) and this album also contains an extended version of this song.

It's the most underappreciated of Blondie's works, and despite the fact that much of it was forced out it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be. At this point in their career it's obvious the band was going to break up soon enough unfortunately; I'm of the mind that believes they still had more to deliver in the early 80s, but perhaps The Hunter isn't that bad of a send off in hindsight. Though Harry’s pancultural heart is in the right place, her rap diction is about as convincing as, say, trying to imagine Dick Clark belting out “Soul Man. Little Caesar" is a strange little ditty, but I really have a soft spot for it because it's so unique and quirky. The Beast" deals with lead singer Debbie Harry's experiences of becoming a public figure: "I am the centre of attraction, by staying off the streets".I wouldn't say it's all bad, but there's some real duds to contend with, and a decent track like "War Child" could've benefited with a better with a tighter sound. Heart of Glass", and " Maria" as well as sales of over 40 million records worldwide, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. I guess part of the reason why some people think this is the worst Blondie album ever is because it's so damn serious. War Child”: a fierce electro-disco with stabs of percussion and wind instruments – again, a faultless track.
