We test input lag with an HDFury Diva 4K HDMI matrix and measure how long it takes between when the TV receives a signal and the picture updates, which is vital for playing games. With Game Optimizer enabled, the C2 has an input lag of just 5 milliseconds (ms), well below the 10ms threshold we use to determine if a TV is among the best for gaming. This is with default settings in Game Optimizer mode; if you switch the Prevent Input Delay setting to Boost, the input lag drops to an incredibly low 1.5ms. We test TVs using a Klein K-80 colorimeter, a Murideo SIX-G signal generator, and Portrait Displays' CalMan software with testing methodology based on Imaging Science Foundation's calibration techniques.

We tested the TV with the PS5's new variable refresh rate feature and confirmed that it's working properly. The LG C2 is equally as impressive when it comes to HDR, and while not as bright as the G2, it can hit 754cd/m2 on a 10% window and 174cd/m2 on a full-field pattern in the Standard mode, and 756cd/m2 on a 10% window and 164cd/m2 on a full-field pattern in the more accurate Filmmaker mode. Although a smidge brighter than last year’s C1, it’s not a huge difference. Deadpool also looks excellent on the C2. Deadpool’s red costume is nicely saturated and accurate in the coolly lit opening scenes, and doesn’t have the slightest purple tinge. The flames in the burning lab fight stand out brightly, and the dark shadows still show plenty of detail in the same frame. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output The Filmmaker mode offers highly accurate images for HDR10 and HLG, while the Cinema mode does the same for Dolby Vision, and Cinema Home offers Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail. LG claims it is the only manufacturer that currently has sufficient processing power to offer this additional feature, which pulls out greater contrast and detail from Dolby Vision content.

The C2 range includes 42in, 48in, 55in, 65in, 77in and 83in screen sizes, making this an ideal choice for anyone looking for an OLED that can be used as a smaller gaming monitor, an all-purpose family TV or a big-screen home cinema.

We retested the input lag with the latest firmware (03.11.35). The input lag is slightly lower, and the Prevent Input Delay feature now works properly.

We added brightness measurements of individual colors to the HDR Brightness section of the review and adjusted our text on the burn-in risk. We'll be starting a new burn-in test soon to better understand the risk of burn-in on new OLED panels.

It’s worth noting that the two smaller screen sizes don’t get the boost in brightness seen on the 55in model and above. This is due to the density of the pixels in relation to the resolution of their panels being so high that the smaller screens can’t take advantage of LG’s Brightness Booster technology.
