He works for prominent Privy Council men in Tudor England, including Thomas Cranmer and Thomas Cromwell. In Revelation, Shardlake works as a senior barrister, a very prestigious position, in Lincoln’s Inn. An English knight is in possession of a priceless religious relic: a piece of the True Cross, said to be stained with the blood of Christ. It's also alleged that the relic is cursed, as whoever touches it dies.

I must say, I prefer the ones that are set in London rather than else where. This one and book two are both set in London and are my favourites of the four I have read so far. What is follow is an intriguing mystery, in which Shardlake will need to go to any length to find this killer, and after some twists and turns, followed by an excellent executed plot, Shardlake will eventually reveal this killer for the Book of Revelation in a most sublime fashion. Not without critical acclaim as well, he’s also managed to garner his fair share of awards over the years too. Winning the 2005 Ellis Peters Historical Dagger for his novel ‘Dark Fire’, he has continued to attract the attention of the critics. His Shardlake series have also been recommended highly as well, winning the ‘Dagger in the Library’ award in 2007. Moving on, he continues to progress as a writer as he hones his craft always adapting and improving. With more books on the horizon he is sure to carry on this success as his audience expands further and further. This looks as if it will carry on from now on into the foreseeable future. Another great instalment in one of my favourite series. It’s so sad I hear literally no one talk about these. Anyone who’s a fan of Tudor England and mysteries will adore them. There so well written and keep you interested throughout, despite the length of the novels. C. J. I will be reading 'Heartstone' next as I've really gotten into the swing of this series and don't feel like a change of pace just yet. When her lifeless body is however discovered in the chapel where she kept her nightly vigils, many believe that she was murdered by Viking raiders destroying the country.
