But if you want to complement the things you’ll learn in this book with other methods, I also reviewed the best Spanish textbooks for beginners. The informal “you” is tú. You use it with people you know well, family members, friends, and people who are your age or younger. Usted means formal “you,” and you’ll use it with people you don’t know, authority figures, and people older than you. The regular Spanish verbs that end in – ar, -er, and – ir take a pretty regular method in forming simple tenses. You start with the stem of the word and add an ending according to the person or pronoun you use. The following tables show how to change tenses for – ar verbs ( hablar, to speak is the example) and – er and – ir verbs, in which comer, to eat, and vivir, to live, are the examples. And you’ll sound natural, with all the little quirks, fillers and grammatical deviations that are typical for a native speaker. Even if you’re at an advanced level already.Since the book doesn’t contain a lot of grammar exercises (they have a lot of conversation activities, though), they actually do a pretty good job explaining the concepts presented. If it’s appropriate for the topic, they’ll include some visual aids such as tables or examples.
