Throughout I've been comparing the Hoover HF9 to the Shark Stratos, as I think these two vacuums are close competitors. The controls of the vacuum are there at your fingertips when you need them, with a LED screen that gives you a countdown on how many minutes you have left, and two buttons so that you can toggle between 'Turbo' and 'Mode', which is tailor-made for vacuuming carpets. Powered by an efficient brushless motor with a removable 4000 mAh Lithium-Ion battery pack you can command 30mins of vacuuming time, enough time to vacuum the flooring of a 120sqm home, with a handy LED Display that not only shows the remaining runtime but give you the ability to activate the Turbo mode and set the brush bar speed to best suit the floor type you are cleaning. Unfortunately this lacks an integrated charging cable, although you can still plug in the vacuum if you want it to recharge when you put the cleaner away. This is a wide, oval-shaped funnel, with a brush that slides over the end when you require a more delicate touch.

The HF9 has been designed to be quick and simple to maintain with a transparent window that pops open effortlessly for instant access to the cleaning parts. If necessary, the HF9 can temporarily stand in a vertical position on hard floors if you need to pause cleaning for a moment. Unlike the pared-back Hoover HF500, which came with only a crevice tool, the basic HF9 is better equipped. It passed this with flying colours, though it must be said that I feel that the head of the vacuum itself is slightly smaller than other options that I've tested. Whatever type of flooring you have in your home, the highly portable HF9 will tackle the job perfectly. The vacuum has an anti-tangle mechanism that stops hair from getting wrapped around the roller and it works well.
