You board an aircraft with a team of adventurers to perform many trips through the cities of Celestia and recover their wonderful treasures. Despite not being a board game in it’s own right, the collective urge to manipulate and use people into making your joint task more profitable before bullying them out entirely is very much what each and every game of Celestia is all about.

If the captain does not have cards matching the dice, the ship will crash (unless anyone plays special cards to save it -- see Power Cards later). The treasure cards matching each island are shuffled and placed next to each island, and a hand of six equipment cards is dealt to each player. Initial set-up first involves assembling your trusty vessel before laying out the sequence of islands you and your cohorts will attempt to reach, each island having an ascending baseline for treasure value. At that point, you can assure the other players you have cards with symbols matching the dice rolled. At the end of each round, players get an additional random card from the deck (either an Equipment, Power, or Turbo card) and the ship resets to the first city.

To mix things up a bit there are a couple of bonus power cards, such as a jet pack that allows you to float safely down to the island below even when the ship is crashing and burning or wild cards that can be used against any obstacle. In fact, that’s the only thing I can really find to say against Celestia: it’s a quirky push-your-luck game that is harder to teach and a little harder to parse than other games in the genre.

On the other hand, Celestia nails the visual aspect of the game, with the cardboard ship, and pawn passengers.
