Description

Combat: Used to defeat monsters in the dungeon row (defeating monsters gives rewards of various resources) or monsters in tunnels. A Deck-Building Adventure saw players step into the boots of cunning thieves competing to steal the most valuable treasure from a dragon’s hoard. While it might seem unavoidable to play your basic Stumble cards or even Dungeon Row cards that generate Clank! Sometimes the placement of the tiles can help you but, at other times they can divert you in ways you would not expect/hope for. In The Mummy's Curse, players have a roaming mummy to battle as they run around the interior of pyramids and sphinxes.

Some secrets, all artefacts and most cards score points, as do the Monkey Idols also available in the dungeon. and if you're familiar with deck-building games like Dominion and Star Realms, you'll pick up the core mechanics quickly. When that happens, all those cubes go in a bag, and a few are drawn out that have the potential to become damage on a character. There’s a decent chance you won’t see exactly what you need for sale, so it’s hard to build really killer decks.This roving monster feature gives players greater impetus to move around the dungeon, as opposed to sticking to their chosen route. Sometimes it will be a choice of spending gold for a benefit which you can refuse or sometimes it will be a choice between two options, at which point every player must choose one of the options but they don’t have to be the same as each other. Players need to find ways to get rid of them, or they risk watching their precious points melt away once they’ve escaped. I thought it was quite fun, wouldn't want to play it that regularly but decent play for a multi-player solitaire game and some laughs on the cards for Sci-fi nerds (like the Roses). is never going to be as interactive as some deck-builders; it’s much closer to Ascension and Dominion in feel.

Each player will need to improve their skills as they go to navigate tricky passages and fight their way past savage monsters. First, you have to choose which map you want to play - if it's your first time, you should use the more basic game - then you need to lay out all the necessary tiles. I wasn’t really expecting to be wowed by it and though I prefer sci-fi over fantasy, the fantasy setting is a better fit. The modular board and the large pile of tokens to randomly place out means that no two games of Clank! Every so often a game comes along that completely changes your attitudes to a genre or a game mechanic.Choose wisely though as each player only starts the game with 3 lockpicks and these can also be used to unlock paths that have lock symbols on them. All of the cards, except monsters and starter cards, have a skill cost that you have to pay to acquire them, and many of these cards are also worth points at the end of the game.

The cards are standard size and, in a shrewd move, the game’s box has been made to hold sleeved cards, which is a great little quality forgotten in many similar games.

I’ve found that different people will naturally be more or less averse to taking these risky cards, which creates a great opportunity for each player to play the game in a way they enjoy. Another is to remove less efficient cards from the deck, making it more likely that the really good stuff is drawn. A new player's pitfall is not realising how valuable movement is - it's possibly the most valuable of all resources.
