Aside from Kirby himself, the manga features many of the characters from the Kirby series of games, including Meta Knight, King Dedede, and many of the regular enemies and bosses from the games as well. The Kirby series includes 39 games, and has sold over 40 million units worldwide, making it one of Nintendo’s best-selling franchises and putting it in the top 50 best-selling video game franchises of all time.

Viz Media originally had plans to localize Kirby of the Stars: The Story of Dedede Who Lives In Pupupu into English for North America in 2009, making an announcement about the series. [2] The proposed English title was simply Kirby. For unknown reasons, these plans were quietly abandoned by 2011.
