Sharkey had succeeded in getting his jailed brother to open up, I guess, but as it is, this is a tragicomic story that points toward and then runs alongside a tragedy without a resolution, and the mixture makes me uneasy. Examining his younger brother’s secret life and the cultural attitudes that allowed his deviant behaviour to flourish unchecked, Sharkey also details the hideous crime that—having snuffed out one young life and shattered many others—brought the two brothers face-to-face again. The brother of a man who murdered his 15-year-old niece says he is 'furious' that he could be released from prison this year despite never confessing to his crime or revealing where he hid the body.

Alix Sharkey has written a book in a bid to force his brother Stuart Campbell to finally confess the crime for which he was jailed - the murder of his niece, whose body has never been found. Stuart Campbell, 63, was jailed for life in 2002 for the murder of schoolgirl Danielle Jones, but will be eligible for parole this year. Campbell was convicted of her murder based on circumstantial evidence, including text messages and witness statements.Danielle’s parents Linda and Tony have promised not to block his parole if he reveals where their daughter is. This is a case only really in the periphery of my knowledge, which also feels like a tragedy as the young girl was abducted, presumed murdered but has never actually been found. Sharkey's main focus was on his own daughter (and her schoolmates) possibly finding out that her uncle was the main suspect, and what that might mean for Daughter's social life.

I will never understand why murderers who have been convicted, and are already in prison for life, don't reveal where the victims bodies are. VERDICT Sharkey offers an intimate, thought-provoking meditation on how his brother's childhood and adolescence affected his later actions.This was an interesting and personal account that demonstrated the effect this heinous crime had- and continues to have- on so many lives. Overall, this was a really good piece of true crime writing, especially if you love to know about the background behind why his brother may have killed. The 15-year old's body was never recovered, but Danielle's parents soon learned that her 'Uncle Stuart', a close family friend, had concealed a decades-long history of sexual violence against teenage girls. Though this sometimes does get confusing it is more entertaining and keeps your attention better than a straightforward linear narrative book would.
