Taking You with Me: When his ship is crippled during the battle with the X-Bomber, Orion deliberately rams the X-Bomber, destroying his ship and himself. The X-Bomber survives but suffers heavy damage. In a later episode Lamia "borrows" another craft, the Space Chopper, this time with Shiro driving, again to get to the Skull. The Space Chopper sees a lot of action in the episode as half of it, the sealed passenger compartment, gets blown off leaving a scorched Shiro on the "scooter" segment to blast away using the Chopper's cannons as he tries to rescue Lamia! A third, two-seater shuttlecraft takes Lamia and Kirara across to the Skull at the end of the series. These Impressive props were involved in some of the best model shot action sequences of any show of this type. Mighty Roar: The Star Fleet version of Big X will often emit an eerie, machine-like roar during battle. It seems fitting though, what with some of the Imperial Alliance members referring to it as "monster machine".

Never Trust a Title: The show is in fact about the exploits of a single ship and its crew. Inverted in the Japanese version, however, where the "X-Bomber" is the ship that that title refers to. The British strategic bombing force largely came to an end when the V bomber force was phased out; the last of which left service in 1983. The French Mirage IV bomber version was retired in 1996, although the Mirage 2000N and the Rafale have taken on this role. The only other nation that fields strategic bombing forces is China, which has a number of Xian H-6s. There is something special about the show and the weirdness of it all definitely fitted in with the new romantic early Eighties British culture. Last Stand: The Final encounters with Orion, Makara, Caliban and the Imperial Master at the series end.
