These exams are typically around an hour in length, with all pupils sitting papers in Mathematics, English and Science. Many schools also require students to sit papers in Science, Verbal/Non-Verbal Reasoning, and a paper from one or more options from ancient/modern Languages and the Humanities. The first thing to ask is whether the school is setting their own paper, or using the Common Entrance (CE) papers set by the Independent Schools Examination Board (ISEB). Schools using their own exams tend to be more prestigious, and so these exams are normally of a higher difficulty level. With many more applicants than the limited places available, the pass mark will vary from year to year with these schools. Schools will sometimes publish specimen papers, but this is by no means a universal practice. The following Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) online practice tests are highly recommended for successful preparation for the Wycombe Abbey 13+ CAT test. They help familiarise students with the various modules and question types that will come up in the exam. Our understanding is that Wycombe Abbey use the slightly harder CAT4 Level F tests for their 13+ entrance exam. As such, we recommend the following practice tests: The maths exam assesses your son’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics. Sevenoaks is also one of the few independent schools in the country that switched entirely from A level exams to the International Baccalaureate.For the 13-plus exam, children could also sit a variety of humanities subjects, most commonly Geography, History, Religion & Philosophy.
