Meaning ‘first’ in the Pehuenche dialect, ‘Mai’ is Kaiken’s top wine. Sourced from 100-year-old vines in Vistalba, this 100% Malbec is structured and powerful yet balanced. It is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, which lends the wine a complexity and roundness that carries through to the finish. The wine is ready to be enjoyed now but has the intensity and structure to age for the next decade. It was Aurelio Montes‘ spirit of adventure and curiosity that led him to Argentina. He was seduced by the people and culture, as well as Argentinean viticulture and winemaking, which he felt was open to new ideas.

These wines feature appealing fresh fruit aromas, and complexity on the palate enhanced by ten months’ aging in French oak and six months’ in bottle.

Food recommendation for the Kaiken Malbec from Kaiken

The estate vineyards are situated in the heart of Mendoza and further south in the Uco Valley, where many premium producers are now sourcing their fruit. The focus is primarily on Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, a variety that was almost forgotten in the region as Malbec’s popularity continued to soar over the past decade. As a result of Kaiken’s protection, there are now several old vine Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Mendoza that produce excellent wines, including Kaiken’s vineyard in the Vistalba district of Luján de Cuyo, first planted in 1910. The highest peaks of the Andes are found in Mendoza: with 22.832 ft, Aconcagua is the highest peak in America. The presence of the Andes, which act as a barrier to the humid winds of the Pacific, added to the distance to the Atlantic Ocean, shape the climate generating ideal conditions for the cultivation of vines. The altitude, continental climate, heterogeneity of soils and the snowmelt are key factors for the production of excellent wines, which add to a significant winemaking tradition. The 2018 is deep red in colour, with violet tones. On the nose, it displays fruity aromas of plum and cherry combined with spicy notes of tobacco and cinnamon. An elegant and complex wine, with soft tannins and a long lingering finish. There is a nice dryness all over the palate from the tannins that balances very well with the wine’s flavors. Finish

The Altamira Vineyard in the San Carlos region of the Uco Valley is planted at 1,200 metres with Malbec and Chardonnay on calcareous soils with sand, lime and stones and produces wines with a dark fruit profile and marked minerality.

Vinification of the Kaiken Kaiken Malbec

Kaiken Malbec Ultra is deep ruby in the glass. It’s a very dark wine with little to no light able to shine through. The Kaiken vineyards are situated in the heart of Mendoza as well as further south in the Valle de Uco, where many premium producers are now sourcing their fruit. After a series of exploratory trips, Kaiken Wines was born in 2002. Much like the caiquenes, the wild geese that fly over Patagonia between Chile and Argentina, Mr. Montes decided to cross the Andes with a firm purpose in mind: making great wines by combining the exceptional geographical conditions offered by Mendoza with the work and talent of both Chilean and Argentine experts. On the palate, Kaiken's Malbec starts pleasantly dry, grippy and aromatic. Some wines are dry on the label, others really are. This red wine is one of the latter, as it was bottled with only 1.8 grams of residual sugar. On the tongue, this well-balanced red wine is characterized by an incredibly dense texture. Due to its concise fruit acid, the Kaiken Malbec is impressively fresh and lively on the palate. The final of this youthful red wine from the wine-growing region of Mendoza finally captivates with considerable reverberation. Vinification of the Kaiken Kaiken Malbec For the beef, place the soy sauce, chilli, garlic and oil in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

Grapes for Kaiken’s traditional method sparkling wine are sourced from the renowned sub-region of Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. Here limestone-rich soils and altitudes of around 1,400 metres above sea level provide optimal conditions for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.Take the ribs off the grill and spread the coals out evenly. Brush the Guava Barbecue Sauce on both sides of the ribs and grill directly over the fire (high heat on a gas grill) for about 1 minute per side, until glazed.
