I loved this book when I was a kid and my son loves it now. He thinks Ramona needs a spanking, and I am inclined to almost agree. Perhaps not quite a spanking, but certainly something stronger than, "You may go to your room." I think the mom gets stricter in later books in this series, but she is wishy-washy in this one. Susan Kushner: Ramona's former rival, who seemed perfect and was revealed to be boring. Ramona was very tempted to pull her reddish-brown curls in kindergarten to make them bounce. Not Wearing Pants" Dream: In Ramona The Brave, Beezus mentions a recurring dream where she's at school in her underwear and everyone is staring at her. This book is the first in the series, written in 1955, and is the only one written from Beezus’ point of view (Beezus originated as a character in Cleary’s Henry Huggins novels.) Cleary didn’t write another Ramona book until 1968, and from then on every book was from Ramona’s point of view. I’ve had Beverly Cleary on my mind for a while now ever since NPR did a story about her (as of this writing, she is 103 years old!), so it suddenly seemed ideal to take a break in the middle of the dystopian novel I’m reading and turn to the gentle adventures of Ramona Quimby and her long-suffering older sister, Beezus.Beezus's is her acne. Ramona triggered it inadvertently by calling her 'pizzaface'. Ramona just meant it as a variation on 'pieface', but Beezus took it as an insult at her acne and got extremely offended by it. Ship Tease: Beezus and Henry being appointed to play as Mary and Joseph for a church play in Ramona and her Father may count. Especially with Beezus acting all shy to be playing Henry's partner, and Henry himself actually agreeing to the role, as Ramona expected him to be too busy to bother with such things. It never goes anywhere, though, since Henry has all but disappeared from the plot since. Uncle Hobart Kemp: Howie's uncle who marries Ramona's aunt, Beatrice. He is Mr. Kemp's younger brother. He makes his only appearance in Ramona Forever. Learning to Ride a Bike: In "Ramona Forever", when Howie's uncle Hobart gives him a unicycle, Howie gives his bicycle away to Ramona. However, when she tries to ride it, she falls and cuts her knee. Ramona is four to Beezus’ nine in this book, and she IS pretty awful: ruining two of Beezus’ birthday cakes in one day, inviting her friends over for a party without telling anyone, and, worst of all, defacing a library book so she can keep it.

In the Henry Huggins books Beezus was one of Henry's friends, and her younger sister Ramona was generally a pest to Henry, Beezus and the other children.The Grumbies: An older couple who doesn't like Ribsy, Henry's dog, because he likes to chase their cat. Presently in the second grade, Ramona gets to be envious of her mom and Beezus, in light of the fact that they appear to share things she can’t, care for sewing and cooking. She’s excessively youthful, making it impossible to stay home alone yet tired of setting off to the Kemps’ after school. At home, her guardians are contending, and the young ladies stress over who will deal with them on the off chance that they get a separation. In the end Ramona discovers that her family has issues like everybody else’s, except regardless they adore each other. I Ate WHAT?!: Beezus and Ramona are horrified to discover that the meat they were enjoying is actually tongue. In Beezus and Ramona, when Beezus confesses that there are times when she doesn't love Ramona, she is comforted by her mother and Aunt Beatrice telling her that it's only natural for siblings to feel that way and recounting some of the clashes they had as children.
