I believe it is one of the most original ideas for books I've ever seen. I love how each book ends with a twist or a cliffhanger. I recently read the prequel, and surprisingly the first book has the best story line and keeps your attention and never bores you for a second. In the end you are like. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

If you’re still unsure about whether to read it or not, the novella is slim at around half the size of the prequels and main novels. This doesn’t make it such a large undertaking to read. It also offers a new perspective to the series as it is from the point of view of Newt and takes place during the latter events of The Death Cure. James Dashner, of “ The Maze Runner” fame, brings us a new story, the beginning of yet another series, from the same universe. “The Maze Cutter” takes place seventy-five years after the events of “The Maze Runner”, so although you can expect some overlap in locations and situations, the characters are all brand new. Wasn’t it bad enough? Wasn’t the end the peak of our awfulness? Why in the hell did you have to let this book exist[?] Why can’t the grievers climb over the wall? They obviously can climb. But not over the wall? Did I miss this? At first I thought the kids were in some kind of dome, but then it seemed like it was just a really tall wall. . . . That it was impossible to climb? WHYYY?????I have to think this book came out while LOST was still on and before its terrible conclusion, which forced millions of Americans to face the fact that when it looks like a story will have no purpose, it probably has no purpose. I have to think Dashner thought he could bank on the millions of us willing to suspend our skepticism and keep watching a show whose writers clearly had no plan. I am hoping that in the wake of that disaster, we will have grown up a little and be less willing to stand for bullshit like this. The silver plate on which everything is handed to the absolutely special protagonist. Because Thomas is so special at fragging everything. He doesn't even need to try. Instead, when we need a proof of his awesomeness, the get the sudden impulses and urges that are never wrong, or if that fails, simply a quasi-recollection that saves the day. Which segues into my next frustration point:

The Maze Cutter is the first book of a spin-off trilogy to The Maze Runner series. It was published on October 4, 2022, and on November 1, 2022, in North America.
