So, that’s the beasts of Northymbra; what about the Allegiances? Well, you’ve got Royalists, Rogues, Freebeasts and Wildbeasts to choose from, and each brings its own benefits to the Warband. After you’ve chosen your allegiance you can start filling out your warband with animals. The range of creatures available to you starts with those as small as Mice and Dormice and goes all the way up to Wildcats, Foxes, Ravens, and even exotic animals like Armadillos and Platypus! Burrows & Badgers uses the whole gambit of dice to determine scores from a d4 all the way up to a d12. When you fight you roll off between the two appropriate skills (adding modifiers for weapons and such) and the highest number wins. It definitely seems like a successful project then! Has it surpassed any expectations you had for it going in?

The problem with that questions is that generally whichever one I’m working on at the moment is the one I like the most. Usually right up until the point it’s finished, and then when it’s finished, I think, “Ehh… It doesn’t really look as good as I hoped it would.” But again, it could be a surprising thing because there’s quite a few minis in the range that I just don’t like and yet other people will be like, “Oh, you must love that one. That’s my favourite miniature, that.” And I just sort of think, “Good, I’m glad.” So we’re all different. So thankfully, hopefully whatever I do, someone will like it. Oathsworn, are the creators behind the Burrows & badgers miniatures & figurines, which are anthropomorphic animal characters armed with swords, axes, clubs and bows. These miniatures are also clad in characterful armour that appears to be inspired from dark age England and Europe.

Toads can be equipped to be excellent tanks, and also make very good ambushers; they also make some of the most survivable spell casters in the game. This isn’t to say that the game is perfect. Some combinations of animals are just more powerful than others and Spells can be overpowered at times but that’s the nature of having such a wide variety of creatures at your fingertips. Thankfully Michael Lovejoy did a lot to remedy this in the final version of the rules however and while I have yet to really delve deep into the new rules myself it stands from a few games things are looking a lot more solid. After games, you’ll go through all of the standard things you do with campaign games. You’ll roll for injuries and death, spend your experience, pay upkeep for those in your employ, hire new recruits and do some trading.The Medium beasts also use a 30mm base. Hedgehogs have Spines, which helps them survive in combat; with Heavy Armour and a Shield, they can make decent tanks. Their d8 Presence stat makes them acceptable Light, Unbound and Noble magic casters too. Each of them has their own benefits and a special rule which makes them unique. For example, the Wildbeasts are Attuned To The Land which allows them to move through difficult terrain without penalty. Royalists, on the other hand, get Expert Training since they fight for the Crown, increasing their martial prowess. Your tabletop becomes part of the Kingdom of Northymbra, the scene of the action. The aim of the game is to defeat your opponent, and how you do this will vary from game to game, as you play through different scenarios.

Each allegiance will also get themselves a Den which works as your base of operations throughout the campaign. This is something that might inform your choice of terrain during games and have you tinkering around with all sorts. These can also be upgraded throughout a campaign which is neat, giving them a character all of their own.We've got 17 new miniatures sculpted, but they need to have moulds made before we can start producing the miniatures. And that's why we need funding; to get the production moulds made, and get the casting process started. Do you find yourself needing to change the minis, even if you’re happy with them, just so that they can be cast?
