The Lightning is the worst of the three extended fighters. It has weak armour and only two lascannons, which are centreline-mounted. For some reason the Lightning gets to carry slightly better missiles than the others… at vastly greater cost. A volley of six S8 armourbane Kraken Penetrator missiles will cause enormous damage but then your Lightning will cost nearly 300 points, which is madness. Way too much to pay for a flyer that’s effectively a one-shot weapon. Legion Tarantula Sentry Gun Battery (Extended) Jaghatai Khan (Mounted)– It can’t be stated how much of a boon Jaghatai is to a White Scars bike list. The synergy he brings ties together all of the other fantastic things the army has going for it with the Legion Trait, Warlord Trait, Golden Keshig, Advanced Reaction, etc. Not only is he lethal in close combat, but he is a force multiplier for your list. His Warlord trait, Sire of the White Scars, grants Infantry and Cavalry Furious Charge (1) but also an additional reaction during the movement phase. Beyond that, he allows any unit that he is a part of to automatically come in from reserves without a roll…or any Flanking Assault that he is a part of to come on without rolling along with the other included units. Some Legions take better advantage of the Sky Hunter squadrons than others. However, it shouldn’t be ruled out of any Legion’s list as they are fast vehicles that can outmaneuver most units and hit your opponent where they are weakest. Weighing in at a base cost of 105pts with the option to add an additional bike for a mere 30 pts you can take them in a maximum unit of 10 with 1 Sargent. Regardless of how you opt to kit the unit, the Artificer Armor upgrade on the Sargent is critical to enhancing their durability. This will allow you to tank incoming AP3 shots on your Sergeant. I would also recommend either a Power fist or a Power weapon. Either close combat option is good, especially the power fist if you’re running a larger squadron that can absorb more incoming melee damage until the Power fist can lay into your opponent’s unit at Initiative 1. As you may have gathered, propelling yourself rapidly towards an enemy army might let you do some damage but it isn’t a long-term survival strategy. That’s fine, if it makes enough of a mess of your opponent’s plan to win you the game. The Heresy was a brutal conflict and none of its commanders would have hesitated to sacrifice troops if necessary to achieve whatever noble or heretical objectives they were pursuing that day.

Add some diversity to your armies with these simple part swaps, although it is much easier if you are in the process of making the models.The big news here is the Talons of the Legion rule which lets it enter a special “Combat Air Patrol” reserves. There it waits for an enemy plane to arrive, sets up straight after it and sprays fire in its general direction. This all happens in the enemy movement phase before the plane can shoot and they can’t use reactions against you because it’s their turn. Sounds cool, right? This kit comprises 161 plastic components, and is supplied with three Citadel 60mm Round Bases and three Citadel 50mm Ball Top Flying Stems. Also included is a Legiones Astartes Vehicle Transfer Sheet, containing 44 optional markings and icons for the Sons of Horus and Imperial Fists Legions. These miniatures are supplied unpainted and requires assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Colour paints. It was pretty obvious these were on the way when we saw this, but it’s always nice to have it fully confirmed! Tougher than the Avenger and with the same lascannons and missile options, swapping the bolt cannon for four autocannons, the Thunderbolt looks like fun. The S7 autocannons aren’t defensive but you’ll hit one target harder. All the guns are centreline-mounted though, meaning you have to point the Thunderbolt directly at whatever it’s trying to kill. You’ll have no problem doing this on the turn it arrives but aiming a plane directly at things isn’t always going to easy after that.

While the White Scars , Blood Angels, and Night Lords famously loved to use Sky-hunters, every Legion made use of jet bikes, even the stoic Imperial Fists and Iron Warriors siege breakers. The Scimitar Jetbikes of the Age of Darkness are modifications of complex pre-Imperium designs. Essentially compact aircraft with the addition of grav-impellors, they rush your Space Marines into combat at great speed. And soon you’ll be able to add them to your army in plastic. But the more fun thing is to give them combi-meltas, which Seekers use better than anyone. They can infiltrate and hit a Spartan with a few melta shots before it and the 10 Cataphractii inside leave their deployment zone. No Spartan to melt? Cool, just use your precision shots to melt holes right through the enemy Praetor. They only get one shot with their meltas but given that they’re likely to be standing on their own in front of a whole army that’s not exactly a big issue.Rite of War: Chogorian Brotherhood– This ROW allows you to take an ungodly number of bike units. Not only does this allow you to take Sky Hunters and Legion Outriders as Troops and Elites, but it also grants Line to those that occupy your troop slots. The Jetbike patterns in service with the Legiones Astartes were modifications of designs which considerably predated the existence of the Imperium and given the materials required to make and maintain them, the demand for them by the Legions always outstripped the available supply from the Mechanicum. Ravenwing Hexagrammaton offers further movement to an already lighting-fast strike force while also bolstering your survivability with the re-roll to any failed Shroud roll. You will be able to get Shroud on the jet bikes simply by “running” your bikes.
