Heathers The Musical is closely based on the 80s film of similar name, starring Winona Ryder as Veronica Sawyer and the era’s heartthrob Christian Slater as JD. First unveiled in 1988, with a mainstream release the following year, the film also stars Shannen Doherty as Heather Duke. Doherty would go on to appear as Brenda Walsh in the hugely popular 90s TV series Beverly Hills and turn of the century favourite Charmed. Based on the 1989 cult classic film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater and recorded live in its original London home, The Other Palace, this award–winning musical follows Westerberg High student Veronica Sawyer, whose dreams of popularity finally start to come true when she's taken under the wings of the three beautiful, yet impossibly cruel Heathers. But when a mysterious new kid, teen rebel JD arrives in town, Veronica realizes that while it might kill to be a nobody, it's murder being a somebody… HEATHER DUKE - 17. Heatherswas filmed last year at its London home, starring its "homecoming" revival cast featuring Ailsa Davidson, Simon Gordon, and Maddison Firth. Veronica is struggling her way through high school as a nobody, desperate for acceptance from the in-crowd, namely the three Heathers and their leader Heather Chandler. After new kid JD arrives at Westerberg High, sweeping Veronica off her feet, things take a turn for the macabre. JD plunges Veronica into a dark world of murder, suicide and lies, as he delivers his own take on justice on the high school bullies.

For the uninitiated, the plot follows a dysfunctional high school, Westerburg, where social angst and teenage intransigence rule the day. Think Olivia Rodrigo but with the sourness dialled up to 17. At the eye of the social sh*t-storm are the Heathers – three masochistic girls who have the school’s eco-system tied around their perfectly manicured fingers. That is, until the idealistic outcast Veronica (“This could be beautiful”, she wishfully ruminates as she watches her classmates in the opening number) starts amassing something of a bodycount through a series of unexpected hijinks and a forbidden romance with a local fan of fulmination . It arrives in its new home on Monday 3 September 2018, currently booking until the 24 November 2018. The Heathers themselves deliver understated power. Steele is fantastic, balancing the venomous bite with a necessary humanity. Both Isaacs and Williams emerge as masters of comedic timing. Much of their performances are delivered through show-stealing facial expressions. HEATHER DUKE – (17) The whipped beta dog of the three Heathers. Deeply insecure. GIRL 1: NEW WAVE GIRL – (16-18) She wants her MTV and dresses accordingly. Voice: belt to at least C# (a soprano up to high A/B is also a plus). The leading cast of five are nothing short of phenomenal, led by the truly enchanting Carrie Hope Fletcher whose acting prowess is easily matched in voice. Jamie Muscato embodies Christian Slater’s darkly brooding JD, and pulls off a character adored, hated and feared in equal measure.The filmed musical will be distributed through a partnership between Village Roadshow Pictures and Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment.
