If you need an all-in-one solution; a broadband router with an integrated VDSL modem, or ADSL modem, all of the router models listed here include VDSL/ADSL modems. For G.fast, look for modems and routers that include G.fast capability, like the Vigor 2766ac. The final setting is under Internet - MPoA to set the MTU. Disappointingly and unusually for DrayTek the MTU has a hard cap of 1500, rather than their usual 1520 byte limit. This means no baby jumbo frames as defined by the Openreach SINs so the PPPoE overhead has to be carried inside the 1500 MTU limit. One hopes this will be changed by DrayTek in later firmware loads. I have not experimented with the CLI as yet to see if it exposes a greater MTU range: The Vigor 166 modem is designed exclusively for use in the UK, with the required network settings pre-set, such as the Openreach VLAN tag.

This means that a multitude of routers and other devices can connect through the Vigor 166 with a minimum of hassle, even devices that don’t support VLAN tags. The Vigor 166 is a pre-configured G.fast (Ultrafast Fibre) & VDSL2 (Superfast Fibre) modem that takes a G.fast or VDSL2 connection and performs PPPoE pass-through to the LAN / Ethernet port, which can then be used by a device such as a router to connect directly to the internet. Standard (plaintext) HTTP is disabled, and encrypted TLS/SSL is in use. Use a https prefix to access the router WUI using SSL/TLS. After the reboot, Vigor 166 should come with some additional features such as basic LAN, Routing, NAT, and Firewall functionality. If you need a more advanced set of features, consider upgrading to Vigor 276x series or one of our load-balancer such as the Vigor 286x series. In any problem state, it's usually best to use a wired (RJ45/Ethernet) connection rather than wireless. If you cannot access the web interface of your Vigor router, here are some possible causes:The DrayTek Vigor 166 modem connects to G.fast and VDSL connections, for full performance with Ultrafast and Superfast FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) services. The TCP port has been changed. By default, HTTP uses port 80, but you can deliberatelychange that. If you have done so, you need to append the port number to the URL, for example http://192.168.1.1:88.

For my use I just switched the subnet to 10.0.0.0/24 and as the WAN interface on my router is set as 10.0.0.1 I set the modem itself to 10.0.0.2:It's due to be replaced at the end of Q4 with the GEN2 version which will support both 106Mhz & 212Mhz as per the original spec. & will sport a different chipset to do it. The revised Vigor 160 Series labelling is carried on the top/front of the unit, together with 4 green LED indicators: It has support for ADSL (not enabled in this current firmware), VDSL and G.Fast so i think can be considered a all in one replacement for those on VDSL but thinking of going G.Fast if they are not on the list for full fibre (yet). It should be noted that the v4.1.0_STD contains 2 different modem codes that can be set via the GUI. The readme file contains no detail as to which should be used or why and the inclusion of 2 modem codes in one firmware load is not something I have seen before with DrayTek. More of that later: How much support will this version of the Vigor 166 get, considering it's basically going to be obsolete by the end of the year, it was already over a year late & isn't to original spec.

Licquorice is correct with the setup in his picture where he set the pc's ip to 192.168.2.2 however i would like to add that when i set mine up i connected it directly to the pc via its P2 port and bypassed the router/switch's completely. Once the settings are complete and boredom with reboots has set-in installing a WAN cable will send the unit into DSL READY mode: Ive been running it for 24 hours now and haven't noticed any changes and the notes seem to hint it's more of a internal maintenance fix (something about the uptime stats now working correctly and a update to the snmp protocol)
