I can finally see that all the terrible parts of my life, the embarrassing parts, the incidents I wanted to pretend never happened, and the things that make me "weird" and "different," were actually the most important parts of my life. I figured it made sense to cover both of Jenny Lawson’s (aka The Bloggess) books in one post, because they are quite similar, and if you like one, you’re pretty much guaranteed to like the other. Our family always plays Scrabble—with a one drink minimum for my mother and I so that the rest of the family has a fair shot at winning. He reminds me of a terribly sick joke we played on our child shortly after her beloved hamster, Rosco, passed away. Shortly after that incident, we packed up and moved to the small, violently rural town of Wall, Texas.

I remember having to limit myself to just a few chapters at a time so I wouldn't run out before the bookmobile made its run back to the country. It’s about the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments—the ones we want to pretend never happened—are the very same moments that make us who we are today.

Jenny discusses many stories from her childhood including a dead squirrel puppet, Rambo the raccoon and the homicidal turkeys that her father kept as pets.

I have no way to compare it, but whenever I let slip the bizarre things I'm thinking about, people seem alarmed and step away slowly, so I think "disorientating" is probably fair as well. And besides, I think the real question here is, who wouldn't be interested in ferrets in cancan dresses? It’s not just silly or full of punchlines—although this book is both—it also has a lot of the surreal, unexpected humor that I love very much, but find hard to find. I don’t think it’ll arrive in time for my mum for Xmas, so I might have to give her a card with Copernicus on it, with “I owe you one book, here’s a hug in the meantime…” That way I’ll also be able to read it before I give it to her (carefully, so as not to crease the spine). In the final section of the book, Jenny brings the book to a close with funniest and yet most light-hearted stories yet.

Each one of these stories was hilarious enough to make me wheeze and cry, feeling like my ribs were breaking with each breath. Lawson and her husband have extremely different personalities, beliefs, and political backgrounds, yet they’ve managed to stay happily married. You should just accept who you are, flaws and all, because if you try to be someone you aren't, then eventually some turkey is going to shit all over your well-crafted facade, so you might as well save yourself the effort and enjoy your zombie books. Before my book it was blogging and before blogging, it was journaling and several times in between, it was graffiti.

That’s probably understood, but I thought I should clarify, since it’s the first chapter and you don’t know that much about me.

Now that she is home all day looking after Hailey, she wonders if it is possible to make friends online.
