Within mere days of that announcement, they had to, unfortunately, cancel those bonus features without an explanation. Originally when this series was announced, KLSC had commissioned a trove of new extras with numerous audio commentaries to accompany each disc.

All 1970s and 1990s episodes including the original TV Movie and the pilot, with good picture quality and removable subtitles. Daniel, that would be great, but “Enough Rope” has been out of public circulation for decades, available for viewing only during occasional special screenings by the UCLA Film and Television Archives (last showing was April 2021).At about 25 minutes shorter, it plays a little leaner and tighter, but I gotta admit I enjoy the longer version more.

Once you start an episode you can’t stop in the middle, and then when you’re done with one, hell, you might as well start the next! Actors like Dick Van Dyke, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Vera Miles, and Patrick McGoohan all attempted to outwit Columbo, but eventually, they all failed.

Oh, one more thing… it would be great if Kino-Lorber offered each set as either a standard or deluxe box. Now at long last Columbo The 1970s Seasons 1-7solves the crime of the missing Blu-ray thanks to KLSC. hopefully the new columbo blu ray sets leave everything in tact and do not reduce playing time significantly by cutting out scenes from many episodes. As I mentioned in my review for Monk: Season One, the fun part of a whodunnit show is seeing how our master of criminal detection is going to solve the murder and identify the killer. Paying slightly more for blu ray versus dvd makes sense when it comes to films with plenty of effects, such as science fiction.

But here the colour is more subdued than I would have expected and when compared to the DVD set for season one the colours are slightly disappointing to me.The ‘classic era’ of Columbo was given new transfers from the original camera negatives around 2011-12, the versions you see on television now in other words. There are others different as well like, DTS 24bit 2 channel is used on the UK series 1 discs but AC-3 224Kbps 2 channel on Series 2. We're in a new golden age of television, but between rubbery pirates, ruthless family succession struggles, and dark superhero romps, nothing compares to Columbo, right? Earlier this year, Poker Face, Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne's modern-day riff on the character and structure of Columbo, was released on Peacock to great acclaim.
