Sloane and Lucian are really well-rounded characters. Sloane’s relatability is endearing, and I couldn’t help but root for her aspirations of building a family. Lucian, despite his occasional exasperating moments, is a character I couldn’t help but look up to. Their rollercoaster of a relationship had me on the edge of my seat throughout! Things We Left Behind” by Lucy Score is an enthralling enemies-to-lovers romance that delves into the complicated lives of Lucian Rollins and Sloane Walton. Lucian, a determined and revenge-driven mogul, is relentlessly working to erase his father’s tarnished legacy. Sloane, a spirited small-town librarian, carries the weight of her family’s dark secret while seeking justice. The demon Gerald brings Rowena to Crowley, and she tries to convince him that when she would put him down as a kid, she was just trying to motivate him. He shows his anger for her abandoning him, especially because he didn't have a father, and she reveals that she doesn't know who his father is because she conceived him in a Winter Solstice orgy. She tries to convince him to trust her. He remains leery.Determined not to be hurt by Lucian again, Sloane resolves to move forward without him. As the story unfolds, both characters are faced with personal challenges that force them to confront their deepest fears and make life-altering choices. Will Lucian find the strength to overcome his past and embrace a future with Sloane? Can Sloane trust her heart to a man who has repeatedly pushed her away? Sam is at the group home getting information on Claire, and the woman in charge reveals the name of a friend of Claire's, Dustin Tate. Score expertly balances steamy romance with heartfelt moments, giving the story depth and substance.Sloane Walton is a spitfire determined to carry on her father's quest for justice. She'll do that just as soon as she figures out exactly what the man she hates did to - or for - her family. Bonded by an old, dark secret from the past and the dislike they now share for each other, Sloane trusts Lucian about as far as she can throw his designer-suited body. I think the aspect that really kept me from rating it higher is the ultimate reason for Sloane and Lucian to be at odds with one another for OVER TWENTY YEARS. I mean, these are smart individuals with self-awareness, and yes, the incident that happened was very important but they couldn’t have a conversation about it or work it through in twenty years? I couldn’t wait for this third book to be released and it was more perfect than I could have predicted.

This is a story about two people who were best friends as kids but then became bitter rivals. The initial chapters were written in a way that was too dramatic for my taste. However, I eventually came to care about Sloan and Lucian’s history together and their subsequent breakup. When things heat up, the tale really takes off. Lucian becomes the alpha male in his quest to defend Sloan from those who would harm her because of her work. The plot and the friendship group are both appealing. The best friends of Sloan and Lucian, who were the protagonists of the preceding volumes, are also couples. They’re the story’s confidantes and boosters, and they help keep things light. There was only one woman who could set me free. But I would rather set myself on fire than ask Sloane Walton for anything. We’ll take the bags,” Jose offered, using his good arm to heft my mother’s overnight bag. As an above-the-elbow amputee, the man was annoyingly good at everything. Which only served to make me want to find his weakness even more. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I absolutely floved TWLB. And everything about it. It will be a perpetual re-read. I will experience it again through the audiobook. I will recommend it to every reader friend I know. And even non-reader friends, because everyone needs to experience this book, this series, and this author.
