Like petrol, it is a mixture of hundreds of distinct chemicals rather than one specific chemical. It has commonly been used as a wood preservative protecting against wood-destroying insects and wood-rotting fungi.

Creocote is really, really runny and it drips everywhere. When I tested this product on the fence panel, I had to use a brush to smooth out the runs constantly, and that was on a porous, rough surface.
