Jo Malone's Velvet Rose & Oud has been my go-to evening perfume for the last few years, so when I first came across Aldi's Hotel Collection No. 14 Velvety Rose, I didn't quite know how to feel.

Blossom is just as floral and feels just as luxurious as Alien, but certainly doesn’t last as long. With that in mind, we decided to put a range of perfume dupes, said to be similar to high street and designer favourites to the test, to see how they held up. I absolutely love Jo Malone products, but lets be honest, they can be so expensive. I've had this particular diffuser for about six months now, and it's only just starting to run out - which is pretty impressive to say the least. I don’t think I’m quite ready to abandon Alien, but Superdrug’s Blossom certainly makes a decent stand in. When I first opened the diffuser the red roses scent was unleashed straight away, it wasn't too strong and had an amazing fresh smell to it. You often come across scents that claim to smell a certain way and don't at all, but this diffuser smelt just like fresh flowers, a smell I definitely want in my home.

The budget supermarket chain has become well-versed in providing beauty fans with a range of high-quality designer dupes of major brands including NARS, Benefit and more.It gave off a really delicious fresh, citrusy scent and it just kept developing as time went on, though not in an overpowering way. If I entered the room, or walked around it, I'd get a stronger smell of the fragrance but it was also subtly noticeable just when sitting in the room. I'd describe the fragrance as very 'spa like' - it reminded me of a really lovely facial oil - and it didn't smell synthetic in any way. Plus I've been buying the Jo Malone candle and handwash dupes for a while now and I've been pretty impressed. The Hotel Collection Lime, Basil & Mandarin hand soap is a fairly good likeness to the original scent. Aldi is certainly know for its dupes, from its Cuthbert the Caterpillar controversy and 'Mint Bubbly' take on Aeros, to its Lacura range, which has versions of best-selling beauty products by Liz Earle, Nivea, Pixi and more.
