These are just some extra sets of measurements I completed. Some, I didn’t process through my MATLAB scripts so they’re kind of raw. But I know some would like to see them so here you go. Perhaps a simple thumbs up or thumbs down (and maybe a "meh" for in between). I like Amir's panthers, they give it a bit of whimsy, but he still gets the occasional "How can this ..., if this ..." criticism/question! Apart from that.... This is a great neutral speaker and my preliminary observations are that it has excellent directivity & soundstage. A compact 5 incher that truly sounds like a 5 incher! I live in a flat where my living room isn't too large, where I use 5 inch bookshelves, the bedrooms use 4 inchers. And there is a difference in the soundstage width and basically how big the sound is, with 5 vs 4, as I am very well aware of by now... As this is a relatively compact 5 incher, I actually can get that big living room sound now in my master bedroom! Wow! Compared with and A/Bed the BS5s with a Dali Spektor 1 and the Dalis audibly had a smaller soundstage width and weaker bass. Though its bass was precise and blended in very well. Had to reduce the bass a little on the Neumis as they were shoved up all the way against the wall of my bedroom TV console. {I actually bought them for this use scenario as they have front reflex ports.} After which, the sound was well balanced and very pleasing; this neutral speaker shone, honestly and unassumingly (like a neutral speaker would) bringing forth the actuality of whatever media content was playing with a scale disproportionate to it's size. I will update accordingly as I spend more time with this speaker. But it definitely is a keeper! :) The mean SPL, approximately 84dB at 2.83v/1m, is calculated over the frequency range of 300Hz to 3,000Hz. Decently clear mids/highs, though this is less defined than the Miccas. These get better after doing the firmware update, and get it much closer to the Micca's clarity, but still not quite as good

The next bookshelf speaker we want to talk about is the NEUMI BS5 passive bookshelf speaker, which is designed for speaker enthusiasts that are shopping on a budget. the speaker is obviously designed according to the limitations of the very (!) small woofer; so distortion figures for about 90dB spl @ 1m are quite sufficient; which look well then; due to intelligent use of the reflex topology one could EQ the bass to flat If I don't have much going on, I will enjoy reading a speaker review. However, if I am feeling a bit of time crunch, I approach a review like this with the question "Do I want to read this review?" It's wild how much of a difference plugging the port makes. I always wondered whether plugging the port would accentuate a resonance elsewhere since I hadn't seen high resolution data on it. But this makes it clear that it's a definite improvement. Again, any bit is really appreciated. I would love to be able to fund a remote controlled turntable for my measuring. As it is, I walk about 2 miles (literally) between my computer and the DUT to spin it about 150 or so times (ground plane measurement + free-field measurement) at a distance of 40+ feet one-way which adds up.This test will consist of the following four (4) SPINORAMA cases and then I’ll provide more in-depth results of the fourth option. Read the titles of the graphics to know what case you’re looking at. All, of course, have the corrected tweeter polarity.

Using the 93dB measurement tells you the measured low-frequency distortion at about 80Hz is near 3% THD and 6% at 40Hz. Will you hear that? Pure distortion is more subjective and depends not just on the listener but also no the program material. The blue shaded area represents the ±3dB response window from my calculated mean SPL value. As you can see in the blue window above, the Neumi BS5 has a ±3dB response from 64Hz - 20kHz but only if you ignore the dip in response around 800Hz. Neumi claims a ±3dB window of 50Hz - 20kHz (typical in-room). I don’t believe their spec is a reach but obviously the notch at ~800Hz throws things off. Unfortunately, this notch is pervasive and is brought on by the port, as far as I can tell (more discussion in the Near-Field measurements portion further down). A tighter window of linearity is provided in gray as ±1.5dB from the mean SPL and this speaker does a decent job of trying to stay within that range but the port noise at 800Hz and ~1600Hz make things fall out of that window fast. The treble above 8kHz also begins dipping/peaking enough to keep it out of the tighter window. Ultimately this feels a bit emptier than others with better subs, but is also definitely crisper/clearer

There is no easy set of rules for what will interest me (for example, if a very expensive item fails miserably, I am curious what got screwed up). Just FYI ... I over think everything! I am sure at this price range and for what they are being used for, no one will even notice the difference. Ultimately, while these aren’t the best performing speakers I’ve tested or heard, I do believe these provide a good value to the budget-limited audiophile. And, with a few engineering alterations, could be made into an even better value. Read on for more detail.
