Devon is a maritime county, which sends 2 members to paliament and gives the title of Duke to the family of Cavendish. The Devon Local Studies Library (the Westcountry Studies Library) provides reproductions of a superb set of historic maps (archived partial copy), including Greenwood's one inch to a mile maps of 1827, Donn's one inch to the mile maps of 1765, and Saxton's 1575 map. Each town centre map includes descriptive text and helpful information about its visitor attractions and places of interest. Exeter - Important since Roman times, Exeter (right in the centre of the Devon map) is situated on the River Exe in Devon, Exeter Cathedral was founded in 1050.
