All the while an LED display between the handlebars lets you know exactly what’s going on; your speed in km/h, your battery level in 20% increments (though an idea of the remaining maximum distance possible would be better), and your speed setting.

When it comes to range, the Riley RS1 offers up to 15 miles which isn’t a headline stat, but it does offer more than enough for daily or weekly riding. If I was riding this every day, I’d have no issue in completing my journey and charging it up in time for my next trip – for comparison it offers similar range stats to the 8TEV B12 Proxi, which is more than double the price. From a comfort point of view, the RS2’s 10in tyres do a good job over potholes, and I could swap terrains from pavements to grass and concrete easily without changing speed or losing control. Cruise control is another welcome addition, especially if you’re riding long distances. There is also a smartphone app for the Kirin which is also well designed and actually useful! It allows you to remotely deactivate the motor of the scooter, set cruise control (meaning you don’t need constant thumb pressure on the throttle), search for Google Map destinations and look at the usual ride stats. As apps go, it was one of the best – and not the cheapest scooter in the range!The wheels are 8.5 inches with puncture-proof solid tyres. The front wheel has an e-brake via the motor and there is also a disk brake in the rear wheel – this is reassuring! Once the scooter is set up, folding and unfolding is as easy as pie, its simple fixing ring and folding lever make it a 10-second job to collapse it for storage under a desk or on a train. When it comes to buying gadgets and technology products, particularly in the Kids Riding Vehicles category it’s important to invest in good quality products. RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter is no exception. There are a number of reasons why quality is so important when it comes to these types of products. The tyres on the RS1 are air-filled and a decent size at 10 inches. They are also tubeless which means a massively reduced chance of punctures – something you don’t want to encounter on a scooter – it can take hours to change an inner tube! The ride quality is smooth and great fun, with a decent display in front of you on the handlebars showing your remaining battery and speed. Other than that, I found acceleration was very smooth and the ride comfortable, with the 10in pneumatic tyres doing a good job of gliding over bumps in the road. The scooter’s 350W motor is best experienced in Sports mode, which makes a huge difference when accelerating from standstill and climbing hills. For example, I could climb up small hills easily in Sports mode, but found the scooter came to a gradual halt when going up the same hills in Normal mode.

The bright LED display sits in the middle of the handlebar, displaying speed, riding mode and battery status when you switch it on. The scooter’s throttle is located to the right of this small screen, with the brake and bell on the left. While the 350W motor provided a good amount of oomph, there were several instances where a steep hill would force me to get off and walk, which is never ideal. Other scooters with similar specs have at least managed to get me up a couple of these hills, even if they did chug along a little bit. A short press on the function button – just above the throttle – toggles between three gears; Beginner, Standard and Pro, which controls what your top speed can reach and how fast you reach it.

ELECTRIC SCOOTERS FOR KIDS

The display on the handlebars is equally as good and is rated at IP54 waterproofness. This is good enough to ride in drizzle/rain, but you wouldn’t want it pounding down in jets. You can actually buy a separate rubber case to go over the display to provide some extra protection against the elements. It’s important to note that when shopping for gadgets and technology products, it can be tempting to go for the lowest price possible. However, be wary of retailers that offer prices that seem too good to be true. Some less reputable retailers may sell counterfeit or low-quality products, which can be dangerous and not perform as well as the genuine product. The E365 E-Scooter is very similar in looks and operation to the FlyRide Hawk, but without the gorgeous white colour available for that model. The E365 is a Chinese scooter and the name is obviously a “homage” to the Xiaomi M365. I've found that's enough for short commutes and other short local trips, although the battery level indicator seems very unreliable – it would vary wildly during a trip – sometimes going up and sometimes going down.
