I liked that she was completely honestly about her feelings at certain points in her career, she definitely wasn’t scared of sharing the lows as well as the highs. Especially when our ‘culture’ seems to enjoy nothing more than pulling people down when they’ve reached the top. If, like me, you followed last summer's European Championships, you would have shared in the euphoria and pride at our Lionesses winning the trophy after a hard-fought final versus Germany. First Sentence chapter 6: „I probably should have realised that I was gay a little bit sooner than I did.

I also loved how open and honest she was with the harder side of football, and the harder side of stepping outside of your comfort zone. Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger, from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman. Just like Megan Rapinoe’s One Life, this was a great insight into what it’s actually like for female footballers, but this time from a British perspective. She's also very open about the mental struggles she's faced both on and off the pitch, and it's refreshing to see someone talk about it so honestly. There might be some things that were lacking in some areas—writing, characterisation, plot etc, but there may have been a few moments that I liked.From childhood, Beth wanted to play football and was supported and encouraged by her parents and younger brother. However, whilst I moved away from playing during secondary school, Mead shows her dedication and commitment to the game and making her dreams come true. She was also named Player of the Tournament and has since won England Women's Player of the Year, the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2022 and been named runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or Feminin. I don’t often read autobiographies, and have no time for the culture of celebrity, but this book is different. In seeing how fragile life truly was, I found a new motivation to enjoy every aspect of life, and live every moment.

This book gave us an insight into Beth as a person and the struggles and hurdles she went through to get to where she is today.

Beth Mead has been an inspiration to me for quite a few years now and being able to read about her journey helped me understand her more as a person and player. The book starts with a dark time in Beth's life, then goes back to her childhood, her family, and of course, her start in football till the current day.
