In 1978, Donaldson moved to Manchester, where he recruited guitarist Glenn Jones and drummer Martin Smith. This line-up toured extensively, but certain venues were reluctant to book the band because of their reputation as a skinhead band. We believe this is at least the second time they have used this property – they used it last year too. The owner of the property should be aware that this group's activities are monitored. At the time I was an activist with the National Front in Leeds and we had already dipped our toe into the water by printing the Punk Front zine, a tatty newsletter which was aimed at supporters who were into punk but not yet active. The brainchild of Eddy Morrison, it was probably the first attempt by any modern racial Nationalist organisation to involve itself in the alternative music scene.

The reformed Skrewdriver eventually became openly supportive of far right-wing groups, after a period of denying such claims. Donaldson eventually described himself as a neo-Nazi, saying: “I would describe myself as a British National Socialist, not a German one, and so don’t think I’m at odds with British patriots.” However, John "Grinny" Grinton later stated in an interview that he had no problem with the new Skrewdriver, and that he became a member of the National Front along with Donaldson. [1] In the late 80s Blood and Honour were publishing quarterly magazines and staging concerts across the country but they had also provoked a highly organised opposition group called Anti-Fascist Action.

Having been active in racial Nationalist politics throughout my entire adult life, I thought I would like to share a few of my memories of those early days in Leeds.

Not the ideal NS look admittedly, but I’m sure those lads now have ‘normal’ lives, with families and a mortgage. And normal haircuts! Donaldson was both a musician and ran the Blood and Honour neo-Nazi network. He was the frontman of a band called Skrewdriver, which openly promoted far-right groups and also was also the lead in two other bands called the Klansman and White Diamond. Stiv Bators Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1949, Stiv Bators (real name, Steven Bator) formed his first bands Mother Goose and Frankenstein,… Last year, the Bound for Glory gig, due to to be the biggest ever gig to be held in Scotland, was called off with a few days to go after 17,000 people signed a HOPE not hate petition calling for the American band to be refused entry and the Scottish Justice Minister wrote to the Home Secretary to add his voice to the opposition.
