Nothing is quite as unsettling as an isolated town, where the few inhabitants just seem a little closed-off and wary of strangers. Malfi does a wonderful job of creating a bleak and haunting atmosphere. There’s just SOMETHING about books set in a freezing cold environment, isn’t there?! Diet: The nutrients we consume can impact the color of our bones. A diet high in carotenoids, such as beta-carotene found in carrots, can make bones appear more yellow. BONE WHITE suffered that same fate so many other highly anticipated, older titles do-lingering on my shelves. Neglected, but not forgotten. Malfi definitely put some time into this one—the creation of a whole lore, just for one book, was something I really enjoyed. In fact, I would love it if he returned to Dreads Hand, Alaska in the future! But let’s start at the beginning.Bone White was more then just a horror book. The mystery behind Danny's disappearance and how it affected Paul gave this book life and feeling. I'm just going to come straight out and say I loved this book. Could be described as a slow burner by some but I just found it totally engrossing. There's an undercurrent of unease from the start about it and it's maintained throughout, turned up half a notch every so often. Like all the best horror stories, what's hinted and insinuated,has a bigger impact on the readers imagination than having it spelled out for them. The sense of foreboding throughout is fantastic.

The whole atmosphere of Dread's Hand along with how isolated the town was from civilization just gives you the creeps. All the crosses in the town to what the police find in Mallory’s house makes this book super creepy. The most fascinating bone in the human body? The hyoid bone, located in the throat.
