In 2021, a TV adaptation of Crime was launched in the UK on BritBox as a 6-episode series starring Dougray Scott as detective Lennox. Welsh worked on the project with Dean Cavanagh. After the remarkable success of Trainspotting, Irvine Welsh, set out on a conscious mission to weed out the type of popular vote that somebody like he could never be comfortable with. Praise the Lord because the product was a much darker, grittier second film called The Acid House, three short stories whose common ground is the Scottish working classes. In truth the third segment is actually a sprawling mess but it at least shows how horribly wrong some of Welsh's bizarre story lines translate to the screen. In spite of this, director Paul McGuigan, superbly brings Welsh's other two stories to life and it's surely praise indeed when one can exclude a full third of a movie and still class it as one of their all time favourites.

I love this ridiculous movie. It's so much fun and the acting is first class! Amazing! The Scottish accents are pretty strong, however I can understand the dialogue quite clearly because I'm English and they are speaking English, but in a local style. Irvine Welsh is a fantastic writer. This is only the second book I've read from him (the first one being Filth), and I think I'm in love. There's this depressing underground feeling, a sense of no escape that he captures perfectly. We are all caught up in our bullshit, moving from day to day without any remorse.
