It’s definitely more entertaining when played in teams. But two people can play one to one as well. How long is the timer for Name 5? You can use these Memory Exercises as another activity that will enhance their memory and improve their concentration. Once you have your cards ready, you can use them whenever and wherever you like with your children. It will ask them to find things related to their five sensory receptors, such as five things that are small or five things that taste sweet. This is a creative way for children who benefit from sensory play to match the taste, sound, smell, sight or texture of something to an adjective. To get started with this resource, all you have to do is print out the cards and cut around them. They come with lovely illustrations to help visual learners, but you can also edit them to suit your teaching. Why not laminate them to use in the future, too? This space is almost like any other, except that when a team stops at a Wild space they can read all the categories and decide which Name 5 challenge they want to take.

Your child will love testing their general knowledge with this fun naming game. Print the game board then grab a dice. Your child can play alone or friends and family can join in. Take it in turns to roll the dice and move around the board. On each turn, the player will need to name five things. Can they do this with a time limit? Game Play

The other team will play the Name 5 challenge that matches the other color on the space. One player from each team may then silently read the card. The timer is not used in this round. It can also enhance their vocabulary. They might be able to think of something but not know what it is called. They can describe it to you and you can figure out what it is and tell them the name for it, therefore enhancing their vocabulary. Divide the cards into two piles. Place each pile face down in front of each team. Play in two teams of 2 or 3 players each. Each team selects a token. If the team is successful in coming up with 5 answers within the Name 5 category, the team rolls again and takes another turn. There are 4 special spaces on the board that change the Name 5 game rules to some extent. These spaces include a special set of rules : Wild: If your team lands on a Wild space, an opposing team or player reads out all five categories on the card and then they choose which category your team answers. If your team correctly names five items for that challenge, you get to play again even if this was your third turn in a row.

The All Play symbol has two colors beneath it. If your team lands on an All Play space, you may select one of the two colors for your Name 5 category before looking at the card. The team going first rolls the die and moves their team's token the number of spaces rolled on the die. If the first team can successfully name 5 things, they get to take the next turn again. They roll 5 consecutive turns unless they fail in any attempt. In that case, the turn will pass to the other team. For each turn, they play a different card. Repetition of each familiar object, person or place is the perfect way for children to retain the information given to them with emergent learning. Your team has 90 seconds (turn timer over twice) to complete all of the Name 5 Challenges on the card to win Name 5!

Looking for something different

Teams take it in turns to roll the dice and move that many spaces. A player from an opposing team then takes the top card from their pile and reads out the category which corresponds to the colored space the active team’s pawn just landed on. Once the category has been read out, the sand timer is turned and the active team has 30 seconds to name five things which fall into that category. If they succeed the team takes another turn (up to a maximum of three), but if they fail, play passes to the next team. Start the timer, and your team has 30 seconds to name 5 items for that Name 5 Challenge. If successful, your team takes another turn. If not, it's the other team's turn. If both teams shout out their first answer at the same time, they should go on to a second answer, until one team shouts out an answer first to win the round.
