The attacks on their lives are skilfully targeted, designed to hit them where they hurt the most, and when a young woman disappears and a baby is abducted, DCI Tom Douglas must try to unravel the past and discover who is the architect of their misery.

And what is the connection between what is happening now and a cult formed twenty-odd years earlier? Gripping, page-turning, twisty and original another easy 5 stars from me and I can’t wait for book 11. The novel is written from the perspectives of Tom and Martha and includes some cleverly interwoven flashbacks which are necessary to understand the woman Martha has become. The two stories swirl apart and ultimately coalesce, raising disturbing issues of mental manipulation and control of a group’s collective psyche.How she gave you the insight of living within a cult gives you such an overwhelming sense of horror and disbelief that people can be trapped so easily into a situation without their realization of what is really happening to them!
