Overall, this is a nice perfume, one that I like a lot, but Pure Malt is reasonably close and done better, without the sharp, powdery edges that render Amber Wood a bit challenging. A*Men Ultimate is a great choice for men who are looking for a versatile, stylish, and sophisticated fragrance. It is well-priced and long-lasting, and it is sure to turn heads wherever you go. Great scent but a bit synthetic (which I don't mind but I know many people do). This could have been a scent from Escentric Molecules. It does smell like bitter amber, to be more precise in aroma-molecule terms: Ambermax and/or Ambrocenide. I'm pretty sure there's tons in this, which are very strong synthetic amber that doesn't only last but also projects like crazy.

The open is very unique. The notes are of baked fruits with cherries, vanilla, and chocolate dancing around in the open. Then in the middle you get the whiskey note. It sort of reminds me of a Jamaican fruit cake, but with whiskey instead of rum. Thierry Mugler Pure Malt is a great boozy fragrance, the most prominent opening notes are sweet whiskey and malt combined with sweet fruity accords, some green/earthy tones, and smoky woods. The whiskey note found in the opening combines with the malt note creating a boozy fragrance that is pleasant but it not necessarily smells like whiskey alone or malt alone, the combination of both creates a different, unique, and fantastic tone. The bergamot and orange described as opening notes, combine among other fruity notes, to the wearer, they just smell like fresh and sweet fruits. The coffee found in the mid notes, adds a soft bitter taste that adds depth to the fragrance and enhances very well the boozy notes; the patchouli adds a clear and distinguishable green note, not strong but noticeable, and, the cedar adds its aromatic woody note that is well known for. A few minutes after the initial application, Thierry Mugler Men Pure Malt reaches dry-down and with it, the musk develops joining the green patchouli; the vanilla seems to maintain the sweet tones initially created by the opening fruit notes; the amber develops a soft powdery tone which further improves the projection of the fragrance; finally, the peat adds its malt-like tone and bumps up the smoky scent of the fragrance. Once Pure Malt has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a sweet boozy, fruity, and woody fragrance with some musky and smoky accords. Thierry Mugler Pure Malt feels mature, playful, bold, casual, and pleasant. When the whole set is used while and after the shower, the staying power is outperforming almost everything. Pure Malt is linear. The notes are "confused" on the top. You get just a mix of fruity notes and malt. That is it. Despite the fragrance notes, you do not smell like an alcoholic.It's not enough really for me to warrant any change from my position on the original A*Men, it's a wonderful complex, oriental, spicy fragrance. Amber Wood lays on like a silk scarf, the note are heavy, but it keeps this weightlessness to its performance which plays peek-a-boo for a whole entire day. The scent is linear as I’ve ever experienced, which is my single worry. When you actually smell it at the 12th hour, it’s the same smell as the first.. there’s this constant, persistent hum of Amber Wood throughout the day that gets kind of tiring, kinda of annoying, but I’m not one for linear scents. Bentley for Men Intense EDP is a superb, strong, boozy rum, smokey incense, woody, leathery, resinous, spicy, and green fragrance. Much more I have the impression that the stronger the scent is perceived, the more people judge it. Almost as if other scents, which are perhaps much more sophisticated, would simply not be perceived due to the slightly worse performance. I also find it unusual that I myself rather rarely perceive perfume on my fellow men.

Today’s installment of my ever-running series of cologne comparisons will be between two scents from the Angel Men line by Thierry Mugler, Pure Havane and Pure Malt. These are two popular and well respected fragrances, as A*Men flankers. In This post, I want to explore the openings of both, how each smells, how it performs, and which of these two colognes is a better buy overall? is a condition that I haven't been able to fully enjoy for a long time. At least not in the conventional, social way. But I already have a fragrance in my collection for a long time, which actually gives me a similar flair. I'm talking about Pure Malt, the second flak ship, next to Pure Havanne, from Mugler. Why I haven't written a comment on Pure Malt yet is frankly beyond me, because it definitely has the potential to inspire. With its typical A* Men DNA, complemented by alcoholic peaty notes, it stands out from many mainstream fragrances and knows how to polarize.Giorgio Armani Code Profumo EDP is a very good, intense, sweet, tonka, leather, spicy cardamom, and nutmeg fragrance. As the fragrance progresses, it becomes more mellow and sweet with the vanilla, amber and caramel notes coming to the forefront. The malt, whiskey and fruits get quieter and quieter as the fragrance dries down but they're still there.

The fruity notes are there as in the original, as is the malt and peat. But after a few hours, it turn into a coffee blend with caramel and chocolate, and it is here where the fusion with A*Men (Original-1996)shows up. In the original Pure Malt, I could smell the caramel and the chocolate in it, but this one its smells different, it smells stronger maybe because of the vanilla. My favourite so far. I don´t know what, but something about this aroma gives me the feeling that this is the best fragrance ever. Overall, would I rate Pure Malt a buy? Yes, I think it’s great but I don’t think it’d be for everyone. It can be quite pricey, it is limited by the climate you live in, not for those who don’t like the smell of malt (obviously), etc.Pure Malt opens with a rich, sweet, cozy, powerful, boozy accord. It’s intense but pleasant; it’s playful yet sophisticated. Imagine being well dressed, eating desserts and drinking beer and whiskey at a fancy brewery, laughing and having a good time with your friends around holiday season, that’s what Pure Malt smells like. The sweetness here is a mixture of burnt caramel, dried fruits, honey, and of course malt. I learned from youtuber Redolessence that this fragrance contains ethyl maltol, which is responsible for creating this malt + caramel feel. The sweetness is slightly synthetic but it smells so delicious I don’t really care. The original A*Men DNA is still present but the harshness and patchouli are toned down quite significantly. These two are cold weather scents and work obviously well in casual situations. Havane, though, does have more of a use in romantic wear it seems. Neither is a ‘club’ scent but Pure Malt hasn’t gotten as warm of a reception from women in my experience as Havane does…it doesn’t effect me wearing it, but it’s something to consider. After tonight's dinner has begun preparations, a rug and tea are brought out and served. You smell some burning wood and spiced fruits. An amber tray is brought and lit as incense. You can smell its freshness, its sweetness, accompanied by subtle notes of stones, flowers, and fragrant woods.

The start features the blend of fruits, vanilla, whiskey, and a bit of the patchouli. The patchouli comes through to give it a warm bakery feeling, like it does in so many women’s perfumes. The Cafe is decorated with ancient carved wood panels. In the air is the intoxicating aroma from the pastries and sweets. Every so often there is the scent of coffee along with aroma of steamed milk and gelato. The opening of both of these scents is really quite fantastic, in my opinion. This is going to be a tough comparison, as neither of these scents is bad or an under performer, and it will mostly come down to personal preference. On a side-by-side wearing of each on different wrists they are similar but I find Creation 2013 somehow more appealing, with its beautiful, sweet, slightly woody, boozy note that evokes the aroma of fine Scotch whisky reminiscent of the way Escada Magnetism for Men evokes the aroma of red wine. Eventually it dries down to a lovely sweet creamy scent that lasts far longer than I was led to believe.
