The Hisense 65A6BGTUK has a good viewing angle, thanks to its VA panel. The TV has a wide color gamut and good contrast, ensuring the picture looks excellent no matter where you sit. However, when viewed from off-centre angles, the TV suffers from some brightness and color accuracy loss. This is a common issue with VA panels, and it is something to keep in mind if you plan to mount the TV in a large room. The Hisense A6G is a 4K HDR smart LED TV that comes in screen sizes ranging from 43in to 75in. Hisense appears to be choosing different panels for different screen sizes, with the 50-inch model reviewed here using a VA panel. The Hisense 65A6BGTUK is available in a 65-inch size, which is perfect for large living rooms and entertainment spaces. However, if you’re looking for a smaller or larger size, Hisense offers a range of other sizes in the A6G series, including 43-inch, 50-inch, 55-inch, and 75-inch models. When it comes to screen real estate, you get a lot for your money, and overall cosmetics are sharp. The A6G may not have the HDMI wherewithal to handle HFR 4K 120fps from a PS5 or Xbox Series X, but it looks and plays fine with 1080p and 4K 60Hz games. In fact, skin-tones also reveal just how adept the A6G is when it comes to the finer details. It manages to load images with lots of pertinent information without being laboured or aggressive about it, and even the most complicated patterns or involved textures are delivered in believable fashion. The same is true of edge-definition, which is smooth and confident, and on-screen motion. Televisions at any price can sometimes struggle to exert authority over movement, but the Hisense keeps a grip of motion without any overt alarms. When I reviewed the 55U8QFT it had a few issues, several of which have been ironed out since launch. However, the bigger screen highlights some remaining niggles and shines a light on some that I hadn’t spotted before. The set’s HDR performance is limited. I measured peak HDR brightness at 300 nits using the Standard preset, within a 10 per cent measurement window. That’s no real surprise here – the screen is more HDR compatible than capable. Certainly, as far as fundamentals such as colour fidelity, detail retrieval and motion handling are concerned, the Hisense has very little to apologise for. It may miss out the very last scintilla of tone or shade variation, but it nevertheless draws on a broad and convincing palette of colours. It differentiates well, even in wide open areas of apparently uniform colour, and is convincingly naturalistic where skin-tones are concerned.

Like pretty much every other 4K TV, the Hisense 55A6G looks its best when given some 4K content to work with – and, in this instance, we needn’t worry unduly about the flavour of HDR with which it comes. So, with a Netflix stream of the Dolby Vision-assisted The Trial of the Chicago Seven incoming, the A6G ought to be able to give its best shot. Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Game Mode - Game mode boosts your chances of scoring legendary wins by significantly reducing input lag. Hisense likes to keep you on your toes where smart TV is concerned – some of its models use Android TV, some use Roku TV… the A6G uses the company’s proprietary VIDAA U5 interface. And as far as it goes, VIDAA U5 isn’t bad: it’s clean, logical, easily customised and has an okay selection of catch-up and streaming service apps. But it doesn’t really go far enough, certainly not where the likes of Disney+ and Apple TV are concerned – neither are included here.
