Description

As it is touch dry within 30 minutes and re-coatable after 1 hour, it’s a convenient choice for many homeowners as you should be able to use the stairs on the same day that you paint them without having to worry about the paint lifting away from the surface. With that being said, I would advise giving it at least 16 hours before using the stairs just in case. It has quite a neutral finish, with a small amount of shine that makes colours pop. It is the most popular choice for interior woodwork such as:

Eggshell – Eggshell has a sheen level of around 20% and is often more durable than matt. It looks like it has a “dull sheen” if that makes sense, so “Brilliant White” wood never quite looks very sharp. However, it is still a very popular finish in a lot of homes and is probably the most popular finish to use on painted kitchen units. COVERAGE WRX Door&Trim will cover approximately 14-18 square metres per litre depending on the surface.I should mention that it is just a standard satinwood paint so it’s not going to win awards for its bomb-proof durability any time soon but it does dry to a solid finish that can withstand scratches and scuffs.

For a primer / Undercoat, WRX is quite thin. This is actually a good thing!! Opacity is good, but you don’t get any of those annoying brush or roller marks. It flies on with ease too!! Adhesion is an issue over previously painted surfaces.

For such a great paint, it’s disappointing that it doesn’t come in any colours other than the standard pure brilliant white. But the elegant, soft mid-sheen and almost velvety-looking finish make it perfect for any home. It’s oil-based, so brushes will need to be cleaned with brush cleaner, and as with all oil-based paints, you should also make sure you keep the area well ventilated while painting and drying. After it’s fully dry, any future scuff marks or stains can be cleaned off without damaging the paint, making it perfect for high-traffic areas. When you factor in attributes such as being easy to clean, having a lovely flow when applying and its high opacity and coverage, it’s simply unbeatable. I was given some WRX satinwood to try out by the Decorators Forum UK and asked to compare it to Scuff X, which is what I would normally use. I thought this was a bold, or strange request, as Benjamin Moore Scuff X is regarded as the very best water-based satinwood on the market. As far as I was concerned, nothing would ever come close. The only thing that really lets this paint down is the fact that it can only cope with light-medium foot traffic. Of course, this isn’t necessarily a negative, depending on how often the stairs are used and whether you use footwear in the home such as slippers/sliders.

Satinwood paint has risen in popularity over the last few years. Its medium-sheen gives a more contemporary look to doors, windows and skirting boards than traditional gloss paint. Most satinwood paints are also a great choice if you’re looking to paint a radiator or any exposed metal pipework, and can even be used on kitchen and bathroom walls. It’s got teeth, grips incredibly well and is resistant to scuffs and scratches. A great choice if you can afford it! The surfaces should be dry and free of any dirt, dust, oil, old paint residues and loose textures which cannot hold itself. It is recommended that wood stain be used on the raw surfaces to be painted for the first time. First, the surface should be sanded lightly and wiped with a damp cloth to remove any dust prior to painting. Best result can be achieved by applying the paint with a brush along the grain of the wood. All tools used should be cleaned with water. PREPARATION Johnstone’s Aqua Guard is really nice for spraying. Follow manufacturer’s advice in regards to thinning it first. I’m painting a 70s staircase which currently has a varnish finish and will be going to white satinwood. Should I use Whitson’s or BIN primer? The adhesion of this product is awesome for an acrylic and the finish is very durable. WRX could easily be the best aerosol I’ve ever used and I’d recommend it to anyone. You can read a full review here. Following on from WRX Trade Satinwood, I’ve gone with Johnstone’s Aqua Guard in the fifth and final spot on this list. Whilst the Aqua Guard is a tiny step up in quality, the price jump probably doesn’t warrant choosing it over WRX if you are working with a smaller budget.
