The Bluetooth module included on the DM-40 is simply for easier casual listening. Making the DM-40 an easier speaker to live with day to day, the inclusion of Bluetooth broadens the speakers appeal. Although we regularly used the Bluetooth connection with our phones and laptop we found the physical analogue cable sounded slightly better. It comes across as a bit restrained, even rounded off. One could consider the crisp sound being warm, but that is taking an optimistic perspective. This is a nice surprise at the low price point. Wood helps to stabilize the cone movement, thus making for a tighter sonic punch. Anecdotally, people also say that over time the tone of a wooden cabinet improves. The DM-40D-BTs are ideal for both DJing and producing music. There is a little switch on the DM 40D-BT speakers where you can choose DJ mode or music production mode. As a result, the DSP settings automatically alter and augment, leaving you to focus on the music. DM-40D-BT Connections Before we dive deep into the review, here are some of the features you stand to gain when using this speaker.

The front mounted bass ports help the bass driver drop lower, moving more air as a result. Although most speakers feature a bass port, they are often found on the rear of the speaker. As a result most speakers suffer in performance if mounted close to a wall. Thankfully, Pioneer DJ have placed two ports on the front of the speaker, meaning the DM-40 is perfectly suited to being placed close to a wall.

The large convex diffuser around the tweeter adds some nice depth. Add to this the inward-facing beveled edges and restrained use of the Pioneer logo. Especially if you want to practice your DJing skills, having a pair of speakers that make you want to move is an essential point to cover. There are a couple of things worth noting about audio cables. When looking at studio monitors you need to understand what connection options they offer.

The Samson MediaOne BT3 offers an even cheaper option for beginners. While not the flattest of monitors, they do deliver with extra features. Worth considering if you are on a tight budget.

From things like simple Bluetooth speakers to a more powerful set of active floor-standers, they are definitely becoming more and more popular. We’ve seen a few active DJ monitors in stores before but after a little hiatus, we now have something new to look at with the new Pioneer DM40 monitors speakers. The low end is most certainly accentuated on the Pioneer DM-40s. Whether that is good, depends on what you want from your monitors.
