They’re also bringing along their Primarch . Fenris is home to hardy, nomadic human tribes, opportunistic hunters during the brief and verdant spring, fierce raiders during the depths of winter. They must survive the predations of the most terrifying monsters in all the Imperium of Man: cave bears, great wolves, massive krakens of the deep oceans. Any human that survives to adulthood is both cunning and mighty.

Since their inception the Wolfspear have been predominantly an itinerant hunting force, prowling the stars without a homeworld to call their own. This absence of a permanent planetary headquarters suits their combat doctrine well; those who dwell in shadow can choose their battles, encircling their foe unseen before leaping for the kill. Drawing parallels with the denizens of ancient Fenris, the Chapter's Wolf Priests assert that the ocean-borne kraken is a more elusive foe than the ice bears who dig their dens all too predictably in the mountains. Apart from this, a Wolf may find himself under direction of a Wolf Guard or a member of the Great Wolf's household. Some find themselves inducted into the Chapter Priesthood, Scouts, Calvaries, or should terrible wounds take their toll they may find themselves encased within mighty Dreadnought armour. [8] The gene-seed of the Space Wolves gifts the chapter's members with enhanced, animalistic abilities, including hyper-acute senses of hearing and smell, and a ferocity in battle that is almost unrivalled by any other Space Marine. [8f] The gene-seed also induces physical changes in the Wolves more extreme than those of other genetically-modified humans, such as elongated canines, shaggy hair that becomes grey, then pure white as the Wolf ages, and sometimes pale yellow eyes. They each have their own forges and customs. The size of each Great Company is unknown, but the Space Wolves Legion is said to be one of the smaller Legions, due to the Curse of the Wulfen genetic instability within the Chapter gene-seed. [6a] As each Great Company serves as an independent army, they maintain a much greater number of troops as opposed to codex companies. [8e]

Sagas (Warlord Traits)

Sergeant Bjarni Arvisson - Bjarni Arvasson was originally a sergeant in command of an Inceptor Squad in the Unnumbered Sons, the nine Legion-sized forces created by Roboute Guilliman which comprised half of the Primaris Space Marines created during the Ultima Founding who were not placed within the normal Adeptus Astartes Chapter structure. He, along with many of his Space Wolves-derived brethren, were initially formed into the Wolfspear Chapter to guard the Pit of Raukos. Battle Leaders are the Space Wolves equivalent to a Space Marine Lieutenant. Typically two of these officers exist in every Great Company, serving directly underneath a Wolf Lord. Founded beneath Fenrisian skies stained by the fell light of the Cicatrix Maledictum, the Wolfspear have never known respite from the war to salvage and renew the Allfather's realm. They are the grim scions of the Era Indomitus, bred for a desperate hour and well adapted to hunt in the darkness.

The Space Wolves use a radically different system of markings than that used by Codex Astartes-compliant Chapters. Despite their relatively recent foundation, the grim Space Marine brotherhood known as the Wolfspear have already proved themselves to be fearsome and ruthless hunters, honouring the genetic legacy of their primarch. Wherever they stalk, the Wolfspear prey upon the enemies of Mankind with a dark hunger intensified by blood-sworn battle oaths and a fierce loyalty to kith and kin.

Wolf Lord: each Great Company has a commander (equivalent to a Captain in other chapters), chosen from that company’s Wolf Guard. It is his duty to organise his Great Company, which adopts that Lord's name and sigil, and often changes its battle tactics to reflect his personality and temperament. Fenrisian Wolves are Ferocious wolf-like creatures from Fenris that sometimes accompany the Space Wolves into battle. [45d] Like their parent Chapter, the Wolfspear place great importance in tradition, and the ancient practice of oathmaking is central to their culture. As the Chapter's saga grows more lengthy with each passing battle, the deeds of their fallen heroes weigh heavier upon those that still live -- valorous acts must be honoured with yet greater heroism, and the slain must be avenged.

I hope you enjoyed, my first impressions of the units I am excited about from Codex Supplement: Space Wolves. M41 — The Months of Shame — In the aftermath of the Armageddon conflict the Space Wolves move to protect Imperial Guard and civilians from Armageddon from Inquisitorial purges, leading to a first a "Cold War" and eventually a direct clash between the two powers. At the conflicts peak, Fenris itself is besieged. [15] Like much of Wolfspear custom, this practice is rooted in pragmatic spoken oaths rather than codified law, and may yet evolve as the Chapter grows longer of tooth. To date, the fraternal instincts of the Wolfspear have proved stronger than any differences of character or personality between the jarls, and the Chapter has shown an almost preternatural ability to coordinate their scattered forces when the need arises. The Death World of Fenris: notable as especially harsh even amongst the death worlds of the Imperium, Fenris is a world of fire and ice – this section details just how brutal life on this inhospitable planet can beGreat Company ( Elva) — Known as the Sea-Flame's Bearers. Consisted of at least 9,200 Space Marines, primarily veterans drawn from Terra before the discovery of Leman Russ. Commanded by Jarl Varald Helsdawn. Wolf Priests combine the roles of Chaplain and Apothecary within the chapter. They are selected from any part of the chapter but usually from the Long Fangs or Wolf Guard due to the greater wisdom of these marines. Instead of using codex medical equipment, Wolf Priests using healing potions and balms, using knowledge passed down from one Wolf Priest to the next. They are also responsible for the selection of new Aspirants to the chapter, observing the frequent skirmishes among the human inhabitants of Fenris and selecting worthy young men to undergo the trials. Amongst the Wolfspear and most other Ultima Founding successors of the Space Wolves, there are a select few who possess tempestuous psychic abilities. Like the Rune Priests of Fenris, these powerful Astartes battle- psykers wield their mental might to aid their brothers and call down ruinous storms upon their foes. After the Heresy Leman Russ was infuriated for not being at the Siege of Terra to aid the Emperor. He personally led a force into the Eye of Terror in the hopes of revenge. [8k] Eventually Russ disappeared altogether, pledging to return in the final battle of the "Wolf Time". Leman Russ then vanished and the true whereabouts of the Primarch remains a mystery. Many within the Chapter maintain that Russ has sought out the fabled Tree of Life in a bid to heal the Emperor. [26] Apparently Magnus the Red knows, but the Daemon Primarch and his Thousand Sons are not sharing that information with any outside their traitorous ranks. [2a] As a fleet-based Chapter with no single recruitment source, the Wolfspear have yet to establish fixed initiation rites akin to those practised for millennia on Fenris. While the Space Wolves test their aspirants in the wilderness beyond the Fang after gifting them with the Canis Helix in what is known as the Test of Morkai, the Wolfspear must be adaptable, and conduct their own Tests of Morkai across various secret, inhospitable environments.
