It would appear that the circle of profesional standups is quite small judjing by the names that re-appear regularly throughout the likes of this book and Peter Kay's and Michael McIntyre's.I also saw he has another book, Alanatomy out and bought it a few weeks back, it will not sit on the shelves for years! When I probe into anything psychological – comedians, famously, have a higher incidence of mental health issues compared with the general population – he bats me away. The book continues in this vein as Carr explores his life as a successful comedian, but not the biggest star.

I had a good time reading it and it has made me want to check out his other book and his stand up work. Co-written by Carr, this show knows how to keep your attention with ideal casting all round, but Oliver Savell as the young Alan deserves particular praise for his stand out, star making performance.However, even he would need to strike some sort of balance if he wants ‘Alanatomy’ to be a must read.
