Most likely the same optical design as the f1.4, made bigger . (So vintage-style rendering..) For a bit more money, I think the 7artisans 35mm f0.95 is a better overall lens. (Much more complex optical design, so much better IQ / sharper wide open..) My favourite 35mm / manual focus / vintage-style lens is still the 7artisans 35mm f1.2 MkII - nice compact, classical design, with good handling, and good overall IQ..So sorry, I mean this 50mm is a 65mm for the Leica M8, according to the 1.3 x crop factor. It creates a confusion for full frame user we want a real 50mm or a real 65 mm (mostly a 75mm in this case for framelines) with long term relaibility. Have you test it with film because a lot of here are mostly film users, also if they use digital cameras ? Thanks.

The TTArtisan offers slightly better (still not great) flare resistance and the build quality inspires more confidence. When the light fades and exposure demands it, the maximum aperture of f/0.95 just shines. Detail, punchy contrast and rich colours are all possible here, but also with a bit of glow (spherical aberration). This makes it ideal for portraits in moody ambient lighting.

My only grip with this lens is it's size - I value compactness, and I feel a 35mm lens ought to be smaller.. IQ wise, it is very good.. Images just seems to have a high clarity and "pop". In the center of the frame almost every lens will render a perfect circle, but only lenses with very low optical vignetting will keep this shape in the corners.

TTArtisan 35mm 0.95 Review - Not Just for Bokeh!

For comparison’s sake I included the Zhong Yi Mitakon 50mm 0.95 II here. Despite the significantly smaller rear lens diameter interestingly the amount of optical vignetting is very much comparable to the Zhong Yi 50mm 0.95 and there is also none of that strange light spill. I’ve been looking at 7Artisans’ and TTArtisan’s 50mm 0.95 but can’t decide which one to go ahead with, as both do have purple fringing and chromatic aberrations.It seems this has only been manufacturerd for a short time and I don’t know much about it. There is a test at opticallimits that might give you an idea. These lenses are good if you are looking for something that has a soft rendering at portrait / close distances.. I consider this as one of my toy / special effects lenses; for sharper, higher contrast type images at wide apertures, I have f1.2-f1.4 lenses that are much better.. You also have different focus help by pressing and holding the same rear thumb wheel for a few secs. Repeat to switch between different modes. The most useful one is Focus peaking, where the area in focus is highlighted. You can select which color in the menu. You can also select a screen mode that displays a zoomed in focusarea on the side.

Hi, on most Fujifilm cameras you have two important manual focus tools you should know, to make best use of lenses like this. I can’t say that the 35mm from 7Artisans is a better lens than Fuji’s 35mm F1.4. Actually, the Fuji XF35mm F1.4 has better sharpness, contrast, chromatic aberration and almost anything else. But the 7Artisans has something else. I can’t tell exactly what it is, but that hidden thing makes me use it day after day! As I said in the first section, I recommend a lens hood to protect the front element from direct sunlight. The light-vacuuming ability of the TTArtisan effectively compensates for the rather sad maximum usable ISO of 640 on the Leica M8. If you would like the option of shooting at lower ISO (film or digital), this lens will get you there. I made images with this lens in near darkness that just would not be possible or usable with any other lens, and in these conditions the worst of its characteristics, such as CA, are less of a concern. Overall you will always feel that a lens has its history. That’s not a bad thing, it will give some characteristic shots. For a photographer like me, that started with a Fujifilm in the mirrorless era, the focusing ring equals to a vintage lens. In other words, the manual focus has never been ”perfect” for me, if a perfect focus ring means smooth handling and a good degree of travel. Mostly because it is very easy to move out of position inadvertently and you are never really sure which aperture you are shooting at as you do not get verification in the viewfinder.
