I'd never heard of either narrator before starting, but they both give great performances in this dual narration audiobook. If that’s what it was, then that needs to be explained, because my brain cannot picture a way that “holding her down by the throat” isn’t the beginning of a horror snuff book. The very first time they meet up again after this ‘incident’, he is immediately forgiven and queue Olivia explaining that it was because she wasn’t as hot as that red head was and couldn’t measure up to that type of woman. I don’t have any interest in sports but they’re so prevalent in the US that I could hardly have avoided seeing some on TV and what I’ve seen has been boring.

Women throw themselves at him and he doesn’t mind saying yes but he makes it clear he doesn’t do sleepovers and he never gives out his number.When she’s not staring blankly at her computer screen or deleting close to two hundred occurrences of the word just from her manuscript, she can be found teaching kindergarten (gasp! When my kids were little, the questions I got from other parents were, Are you putting your son in hockey? That doesn’t include Black Americans or the smaller number of East Asian players, plus I’ve no idea how the players from Curacao are counted. They were thrown in similar situations in the beginning of the book and towards the end and you can TOTALLY see their growth through how they handle it.

I still want to read the rest of the series, i liked the glimpses we got for the next couple, but i will wait to be in a sport's romance mood again!I guess i will try to list the things that i liked and the things i didn't (from what i remember because i have read other books in between).

At one time, football dominated in contemporary romances, but there are a lot more Black players in the sport now than there were then. I couldn't connect with any character really (i liked adam tho) Also, idc if I sound like a bitch but if my best friend- nishaaaaaaa babe im looking at you- got engaged at my wedding, idfc I'm disowning her ass. And considering this man has been with so many women, all kinds of women really, because of his career, it makes little sense that one day he sees her and bam without knowing anything about her he is enthralled. There are SO MANY swoony, tender moments, which pair perfectly with the intensity of emotion and the delicious spice. The runtime is also prohibitive, because 20 hours means you'll be listening for AT LEAST two days, probably more.It also is one of those books that the couple gets together rather early on and we see their relationship grow, which I've seen some requests lately for books where we get more page time of couples being couples rather than the back and forth of will they-won't they. I have pondered hockey’s outsize presence in the genre and concluded that there’s a component of racism and classism there. Sure, it's a story that belongs to fiction (of the most self-indulgent kind, may I add), but if you're in for some daydreaming, lots of cuteness, hockey games, friendship for ages (what's the opposite to toxic masculinity, by the way? The desirability of a central male character doesn’t always have to be stressed to the same degree in a YA (it’s not always a big part of what the reader will zero in on), and even when it does, it’s usually not framed in a “marriage material” / “eligible bachelor” way, so how popular a sport played by a main character who is also an athlete is, or how much money that character earns from their sporting career is isn’t as crucial either, unless that’s a primary focus of the plot. No woman has ever made him want to change his ways, and he values his privacy and alone time, so casual encounters have always made the most sense.

Rose: Regarding the Miranda Keneally books, I don’t think of YA novels as romances, even when the romance is what the plot centers on.He’s a smooth talker but what in his past would cause her to believe he’s after more than just one thing from her? His career is at its peak, his team is performing better than ever, and there’s no shortage of women to spend the night with. but i’m most excited to read Emmett + Cara’s book bc i know it’s going to be a marriage in crisis (just a theory since they are already a couple in Consider Me) and i know it’s going to break my heart. I listened to about 4 hours of this book, which, I think, is a fair amount to get a good read on the contents and characters. I’ve had this on my kindle for a few months, and it wasn’t until the audio version released that I decided to take the plunge.
