Bramwell Brown remembers his friend, Old Bear, who, a long time ago, was put away in the attic for safe keeping. Still, it's a nice story of friendship and the value of "old things" but the real merit here is the illustrations. Furthermore, whilst reading the story, it was easy to imagine children reading along with the teacher, "Ready! In the end Old Bear comes up with the perfect solution and, at last, there is plenty of room for them all to sleep. Old Bear— an old dusty teddy bear, Old Bear is the sensible one who likes to sort out problems and keep everyone happy.

This classic tale is one that is heartfelt, poignant and endearing that both children and their parents will want to re-read time and time again, as it is so universally loved having found a special place within all our hearts. Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some signs of wear on either the binding, dust jacket or pages. I particularly love the pictures and the creativity of all the attempted rescue methods (including making parachutes out of handkerchiefs! When Old Bear falls out and bumps his head the toys decide it would be a good idea to try and find somewhere else to sleep. The wonderful illustrations bring this magical story to life as well as make this edition an enchanting book to treasure, as something quite exceptional.

This is a great story of toy friends working together to rescue the teddy bear abandoned in the attic. He rushes about so much that he is often hungry, so any suggestion of a picnic or party, or even just a bowl of porridge, will get his attention. Dust Jackets are not guaranteed and when still present, they will have various degrees of tear and damage.

The beautifully drawn illustrations are fantastic; Hissey manages to effectively capture texture and detail in the toys that the drawings look like photographs. Elsie's trunk means that she can do things that the others cannot, such as using a knife, fork and spoon all at once and blowing the most amazing bubbles! It's the story of several stuffed animals who remember that another stuffed animal, an old bear, had been put up in the attic storage so the small children couldn't damage him.

All pictures have an element of darkness to them, which I think symbolises the overall theme of the book. He is disappointed to hear that, despite watering it and keeping it warm, his pip could take years to grow into a tree. The story itself is a bit too long-winded and I didn't really sense anything special in the voice; I imagine if Hissey was trying to get into picture books today they would have paired her with another author or else pared down her text quite a bit.
