Vacuum Record Cleaning Machines Leave the record to dry naturally or wipe it over with a fresh microfibre lint-free cleaning cloth to dry off the solution. If you have a very large record collection and money is no object, then you may want to consider a fully-automated record cleaning machine with ultrasonic cleaning technology. Place the record in the bath sliding it between the two cleaning brushes until it rests on the rollers at either end of the reservoir. If GrooveWasher is unobtainable where you live, I can also recommend the Vinyl Revival cleaning kit. This solution is safe and alcohol-free, but does require a two-step cleaning process (clean and rinse). Record Cleaning Machines

Vinyl is certainly not without its faults. But nevertheless, if you like the physical product and you’re prepared to put in a little extra groundwork to maintain your records – collecting vinyl can be one of the most rewarding ways to consume music. Apply the applicator again, but this time gently drag it to the outside edge of the record to remove any dirt and debris from the record's groove. You can repeat this action several times, but make sure to remove anything that's been collected by the brush before placing the brush on the records surface once again. A good quality outer record sleeve will help protect the record further from dust, while also helping to preserve the cover art from wearing out every time you pull a record from your library to play. Again, MoFi offers a good affordable solution here, but I’ve been increasingly impressed by a new player on the market by the name of Vinyl Storage Solutions. There is a certain magic and allure to vinyl that has seen the format endure much change over the last three decades. Purists love the format for its physical connection. And, with the right maintenance and care, vinyl records can go on delivering for many years to come – providing what I feel is certainly the most romantic way to consume music.

We’ve all been there. First, use a clean cloth and the spot cleaner in the Tapi Maintenance Kit. Try to keep the cleaner just on the stain itself. Then wipe with a damp cloth to remove any residue. How to get clean drink spills

To use, spray the solution onto your microfiber cloth, and lightly wipe in a circular motion around your vinyl. Avoid pressing too hard on the vinyl, as that can cause any dust or gunk to sink deeper into your record. After a few spins around, let any leftover solution dry before playing your freshly cleaned record. Step one is the proper storage of your precious records when they’re not in use. Firstly, always store your records vertically and away from extreme temperature or humidity changes to prevent warping. Never lay your records flat as this is a sure way to warp them over time. Secondly, dust and dirt are the audiophiles’ worst enemy, and the best weapon here is prevention. Always store your records in their sleeve and place them inside the cover. The aim of the game is to keep the amount of time that a record is exposed to airborne dust and dirt particles to an absolute minimum. Outer and Inner SleevesAgain, hours of Googling can be had here and you might find some weird and wonderful suggestions too (if you’re brave enough to try the dishwasher or toothpaste suggestions we found, we salute you). But to begin with here's a few simple tips: Fatty or oily spits and spills are common, especially in the kitchen. And keeping the little ones happy with a bar of chocolate, seemed like such a good idea at the time until half of it ended up on your floor. But it’s OK. Just use a floor spot cleaner (there’s one in our maintenance kit) and you’ll be right as rain in no time. Can you steam clean vinyl flooring? You shouldn’t steam vinyl flooring, because although vinyl is hard-wearing and water-resistant, the heat that comes from standard steam mops is too intense for the materials that make up vinyl flooring. It could potentially cause the tiles to warp and melt the glue with which the flooring is attached – you’ll find out more about this in our ‘ What is vinyl?’ flooring guide. As a matter of practice, I replace my stylus at least once every year. Avoid wearing outdoor shoes on vinyl flooring where possible, especially high heels or metal-trimmed soles. Vinyl flooring is very hard-wearing, but the constant use of hard shoes will inevitably leave marks. Here are some ways in which you can prevent dirt, stains, and marks from ruining your vinyl flooring before you have to take drastic action! One thing to note, however, is to make sure you don’t press down too hard. While this brush has been designed specifically for vinyl records, jamming down on it can damage the grooves in the record and trap the gunk you’re trying to clean out. Keep your sweep nice and light and you’ll find your records are all the better for it. Once your records are clean, it’s time to properly store them. Older records came in cheap sleeves that yellowed over time, so it’s worth upgrading them with a more effective set. Whether your record is freshly pressed or 50 years old, using a cleaning brush can make a big difference.
